I doubt they would notice we have 8 players on the bench however 12 on the pitch...tugboatpete wrote:Go with

I think we need to take a balanced approach to this evening's match. We have to take it seriously out of respect for the competition itself, but mainly for the fans, especially those who are travelling up to Manchester.
And putting out a reserve/kids team which gets stuffed 8-0 would be dangerous for the club's confidence and could start a downwards spiral.
However, bad squad planning and the inept fitness regime at WH mean that Sam, as he says, is down to the "bare bones" especially defensively. We can argue later as whether implying that some players are "bare bones" is the right message to be handing out to these players, but it certainly is true that we can't afford to risk any new injuries tonight.
In an ideal world Sam would have balanced the squad in the summer and we would have a fitness/medical team that knew how to protect our players from 2 muscular injuries a week, but such as things are, I'd blend experience, youth and fringe players and tell them to fight like hell:
Jussi
Demel Diarra Tomkins Taylor
Noble O'Neill
Vaz Te Nolan Jarvis
CC
Subs: Spiegel, Spence, Joe Cole, Collison, Diame, Lletget & that young Irish lad we've just signed
I'd play Nolan because he doesn't deserve a night off the way he's playing, I'd rest Joe because he's come from hardly playing to 3 games in a week and I'd play Diarra at CB because everyone says he can play there so let's see if it's true! I'd play Taylor at LB because he might well be better than Potts whose confidence is probably shot

It's probably another partial evening off (at least) for Robin Van Persie. Van Persie sat behind a panel marked “in case of emergency break glass” in the first game

before the 2001 barthez waving 1 0 victory at old trafford, Tross wrote an article for this game, if anyone doesn't think tonight has any meaning, then you are so wide of the mark, it matters and will matter to anyone going,or watching with claret and blue blood, and hopefully everyone playing, what Tross wrote still rings true today as it did in 2001

Doubt you'll be seeing that £5 ever again! Got a fiver on us to win let alone for CC to score! I think we're being a tad optimistic mate!Hoggy31 wrote:Well I've put a fiver on CC to score, and the result being 1-0 our way at 95-1.
