Re: West Ham United v Queens Park Rangers: match thread
My first Premier League game of the season and whilst current form would point to a home win, 40 years of following the Hammers tells me nothing is that simple. Sooner or later, someone is going to take a spanking from us and I would love it, absolutely love it, if it was Twitchy's mob on Sunday.

Re: West Ham United v Queens Park Rangers: match thread
My hope for this game is that we give a massive welcome to our old boys and show them what we think of them the proper West Ham way.
The match:
On paper we should comfortably win this but this is West Ham and we don't do "on paper"

No need to assume. You are 100% correct!! (Well 99% as coverage starts at 3.45 )Hambrosia Stu wrote: It's the early game. They're on at 2pm, we're on at 4.15pm (coverage starts at 4pm)
I can only assume it's on at quarter past so the Sky pundits can have an extra 15 minutes of whacking-off to the big boys.....

The way Carlton used to always have a good game against Rio and Vidic (never quite understood that) I think he'll grab a goal once thrown on at the end.
So that's at least one for us

Match Day Line Up Background Music
I may be being stupid as I definately recognise it from somewhere else but..
What is the music that is played when the team line ups are being announced before the game at Upton Park?
Doing my head in trying to think of it!

Usually play some classical stuff such as Palladio by Escala. Not sure if they still play it, usually don't get in the ground until 1 or 2 mins before kick off!

If Nolan starts, We know Sam is not a Hammers manager, now way does he deserve a place in the team.

If Noble isn't fit again, Nolan will play. But what I'd like to see is the diamond formation again with an experiment of Nolan dropping deeper to see if he can play that role.

Adrian
Jenkinson Tomkins Reid Cresswell
Noble
Song Poyet
Downing
Valencia Sakho
As few changes as possible. Would have no problem with Nolan starting if Noble isn't fit. Amalfitano has been OK but hasn't had enough time on the pitch to make himself undroppable.
Having said that there's definitely an argument for asking Downing to play the box to box role next to Song and throwing in Zarate to go really attacking. With his confidence at the moment, Downing picking it up deep and driving at Rio could be carnage.

I'd agree if Noble and Kouyate were fit. But with injuries he might slot in.saludo de carlitos wrote:If Nolan starts, We know Sam is not a Hammers manager, now way does he deserve a place in the team.

I always think that a West Ham "fan" who uses the "hammers" nickname is not a real fan. More a Plastic fan. Irons is the only waysaludo de carlitos wrote:If Nolan starts, We know Sam is not a Hammers manager, now way does he deserve a place in the team.

Re: West Ham United v Queens Park Rangers: match thread
Is it only West Ham that has lifelong second generation plastic fans? My old man followed the "hammers" his whole life and used noth nicknames interchangeably, as have I in the near half century I've been following them. (Actually, probably 3rd generation, but I never thought to test my grandad before he died when I was 7).Discobar wrote:I always think that a West Ham "fan" who uses the "hammers" nickname is not a real fan. Anyway, as was often shouted from the terraces at Upton Park in the 60s, "Up the Hammers"!
Re: West Ham United v Queens Park Rangers: match thread
C'mon guys!
It doesn't make you a plastic fan if you call us "hammers" at all. When I'm watching us whether its at the ground or on TV I generally say "c'mon Irons" but if asked on say the street what team I support I say "the hammers"
It's just one of those things. Think you're reading waaaay too much into it. A plastic hammer is a two-bob builder or a follower who never attends games and cant tell the difference between Carlton Cole and James Tomkins.

This is going to be a tricky one, never fancy us when there is a bit of expectation on us to do well.
