Interesting this thread was started on April 22nd.

Takes me exactly back to a previous time I felt so certain we would get battered:

watching Bishop knock the ball around reminds you that you don't always have to be 6'4" 17 stone to dominate midfield. Once again a team with plenty of talent at the wrong end of the table

Guardiola calls for sustained Man City focus

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola called for his players to remain focused for the remainder of the season after he saw his newly-crowned champions thrash Swansea City 5-0.

It's quite important for reasons of morale and goal difference that this doesn't turn into a slaughter. But better teams than us have failed to keep the score down and even under 'defensive' Moyes we've been regularly tonked. I would actually think of playing Hernandez with Arnie (and Lanzini) simply so we retain the ball better and have a chance of pressing them back a little. And bring on Carroll with at least 30 minutes to go, not at the end. If it's 0-2 then that's a moral victory.

I think Spurs showed how not to play against City. Push up high and keep the ball in midfield. City responded by lobbing the ball over the top. They have top players all over the pitch so they can certainly play those balls properly. What a lot of people don't notice about Liverpool's win was how well they played in bursts. They often let city play silly beggars with the ball in their own half then pressed them when they pushed forward. Once the ball was turned over they would then use their pace to attack. Unfortunately we don't have much pace, but the rest of it is relevant Don't waste energy chasing hopeless balls press them as they cross the halfway line. We'll probably get stuffed, but it's an idea to try and not make it too easy for them.

One positive thing is that we are saved the embarrassment of having Hart in goal

Good point. The record win in the PL era is by their rivals Man Utd, 9-0 over Ipswich. I'm sure they'll want to go one better and stick 10 past us.

I'm quite optimistic about this match. Just have an inkling that we will hold on to a 1-0. Adrian will have the game of his career, and Oggy is going to be imperious.

Such is my confidence I going to have a £10 on us to win. call me stupid a f***wit or whatever but I just think this game we will click.

i guess the fixture needs to be fulfilled but honestly, it's a shame we can't just agree a 3-0 defeat to avoid injuries and move on. I wouldn't put any money on us at even 500/1

I'm having a fiver on the keeper eating a meat pie on the 30 minute mark, probably sat at a table in his six yard box.

We might lose this one, and that's ok. But at least i'm confident we'll enter the field with the knowledge it starts at 0-0 and anything can happen in football, so our lads will be well up for it and determined to be all they can be on that night. We'll at leadt give it a go, do everything in out power to win the match, and if we fail, so be it. At least we will have made them work hard for their points :scarfer:

(Joking, obviously. We'll sit back to try and soak it up, doom written on our faces, hoof the ball to Arnie, get run over and loose 4-1 with them never getting out of third gear)
