Re: ⚽ Everton vs West Ham Utd: match thread (16/9)
Not sure this game is as nailed on an Everton win as most think. Far from it in fact.
Huddersfield have just been to Everton and picked up a point and Everton have also drawn with Bournemouth and Wolves plus only narrowly beaten Southampton.
They will also be without their new main man Richarlison due to him being suspended.
Obviously all of that is countered by the fact that we have been terrible, but another two weeks working with the squad and you just never know.
I'd start Obiang or Noble in the middle with Sanchez and have Wilshere in front of them.
Would actually like to see Perez, Yarmolenko and Arnautovic as the attacking three.

Everton are still trying to gel like us. It just depends how we are on the day. Against Wolves we had 3 or 4 players who just did not turn up. I remember Tony Gale saying once " you only need 3 or 4 players to be below par and the whole team suffers" (talking about football in general) Despite the result against Wolves I'd keep the same back four (although wouldn't argue about swopping Fred for Zab). Thought the two centre backs did well. Wilshere on the bench for me, don't see what he does.

With Sanchez sitting in behind, i really hope Obiang can get back to his form of 2016/17. He looked lively on Saturday in his brief performance
Sanchez, Obiang and Noble in midfield for this one
Fab
Zab
Diop
Ballbag
Masuaku
Sanchez
Noble
Obiang
Yarmo
Arnie
Hernandez

I like that
Definitely would have a midfield 3 with at least 2 who can help defend
Sanchez plus somebody out of obiang-noble-rice
Would rather have cresswell though
Would also have Anderson in the 10, with Arnie plus either yarmo or Hernandez up front

Re: ⚽ Everton vs West Ham Utd: match thread (16/9)
think I've finally succumbed to a lot of other posters suggestion that we have to go to 3 at the back with two wing backs. i'd actually put Rice in as the third centre back, as he is the best ball player and i just don't trust ogbonna to not make at least 1 big mistake a game. rice could potentially be the most advanced of the three centre backs and join in as an added body in midfield if we are going forward.
cresswell was very poor on the weekend, as was fredericks. i hate this whole chopping and changing (i dont think its helping at all), but whilst we try and figure out our best team, can't see past it. for those reasons i'd reinstate masuaku and zabaleta.
midfield: hardly a lot of options, noble started poorly then injured, we looked a lot better after wilshere went off, sanchez with a high profile mistake but overall not bad since he's come in, obiang who most of us thought was dead buried, could suddenly be a starter? i don't think we can give up on wilshere just yet, and i think it would be more counterproductive to drop him. theres a quality player there, we just haven't got the best out of him. so i'd go with him and sanchez again. which is strange i know, given how poor we were on sat first half, but if we don't give any of these new partnerships time to gel, will we ever get our best XI? and the options to replace him with, hardly awe-inspiring/game changers. risk/reward ratio for dropping him in favour of noble or obiang doesn't work out in my mind
Yarmolenko was one of only three players to come out of saturday with any credit (diop and fab the other two) so has to start in my mind. one of the few technically gifted players in our team who genuinely looks like he can create something out of nothing.
anderson was poor sat, but has enough credit in the bank with me from his performance arsenal away, to make me think he will be better suited to our away games when we play on the counter attack. his pace and direct running will definitely be of value against everton.
arnie up top.

Must be something in the air at Stanley Park that affects our players every time they are in its vicinity, causing us to turn over for those mobs year after year.
Seen nothing to suggest we will win this; if any one of Antonio, Cresswell or Wilshire start then we certainly won't.
4-1 Everton.

You need to get to Liverpool lime streetAldo1901 wrote:What station is best to go to from london for the game?
Then enjoy the pubs in the city center and get a cab to the ground, or get a cab to the arkle or the Sandon at anfield and walk across the park to Goodson
To get back to lime street after just walk right out the bullens road stand , right onto the dual carriageway and just stay on that road at some point cross over as it will put you on the correct side of the road for lime street, but if you see a cab get in it cost of a pint each way
Great away day proper football ground

We are useless at Liverpool and Everton.
Surely we are not as bad when we play up at Tranmere Rovers. (Played there 4 times)
A 0-1 L
A 2-5 L
A 0-0 D
A 2-2 D

S-H I really like the look of that line-up, I'd stick Fredericks in there at right wing back though, he was superb for Fulham last year playing in there. Was poor going forward at the weekend but that's not the norm for him.

Same formation Wolves used against us.
Yep. Allows the 'wingers' and central striker to have plenty of freedom to roam and interchange.

Would allow them to waltz through the middle of us though sadly. i think we need three in the middle.Patito wrote:

Sanchez, Obiang and Wilshere. If Noble is fit then for me, he is pushing a place over Obiang.
Re: ⚽ Everton vs West Ham Utd: match thread (16/9)
We'll have no excuses if we get stuffed here. Everton are a team in transition, with a new manager much like us. We've narrowly lost to two well-organised settled teams. (I know Wolves have new players as well) I'd like to think we can't collectively play as badly as we did against wolves but we probably can. This is a big match for us, lose it and we are staring down the barrel. Lose it heavily and Pell is on the edge. Another 4-0 like last season and abandon all hope!
