rules changed this year - I know I had to be reminded of it !!!!!!

:D
You’re quite right sir, it did change this year didn’t it.

In which case I will let them off for not having Nasri available :)

I honestly don't think Hughton gets enough credit..

first order of business is be tough to beat, be disciplined and then try to exploit the other team's weakness(es)..

Hernandez not likely to be available until the Arsenal game at the earliest. Snodgrass doubtful.

This will be similar to last year. We will have times just camped in their half. They give us space to cross, knowing full well we will prefer to go back inside and try again. Then when we do cross, we're aiming at Arnie.

For that reason, I think Carroll would be ideal. It means they can't comfortably go into a shape where they would allow crosses. And if they do, we have someone capable of both scoring, and of making Duffy and Dunk uncomfortable.

I worry about Diop in this, although he won't have as many lumps bothering him, I do think Murray is the kind of striker who will outdo him.

-----------------Fab
Zab (I hope) Diop Ogbonna Cress
------------ Obiang Rice
Snod------------------------Anderson
-----------Arnie Carroll

Wouldnt be against Noble for Snodgrass and Anderson given a free role to drift behind the front two.

Imo 4 points from Saints away, Burnley away and Brighton at home is a reasonable return so a draw tomorrow will be fine. Obviously a win would be great but lets not get greedy as December was a great month.

I would a million per cent go 4-3-3 for this one. We just don’t have the personnel for 4-2-3-1 yet which is a shame as I see it as our future.

20 games in and Arnie has only got 5 goals to his name which is a shame as I thought he'd be on almost double that by now. Shame he was playing through pain for a lot of games and hasn't had the best midfield behind him attacking wise.

Tonight he'll get a couple I think.

With our injuries and with them being one of our bogey sides I can see this being a draw.

1-1 with Arnautovic to score.

A low cross curled across the face of the goal behind the defence... murray ghosting in between 2 defenders... it will happen. So we need at least 2 goals.

With Nasri available as well as arnie and carroll i just don't want to see Perez on the pitch. He's an utter waste of space and we lose all attacking threat. I'd rather see Silva on there and get shot of perez this month.

Well Murray will score one and we need to score two. I want to see Carroll given more of a game.

Will be watching on a dodgy stream at home this evening, tough game this one as proven by our recent track record against Brighton.

I said about Watford the other week how big a game it was to prove we had made improvements by comfortably beating teams at home that we should be beating (Watford, Bournemouth, Wolves, Brighton etc) not just bottom 6 fodder but we failed. Hopefully we don't do the same again tonight.

I'd go for:

Fabianski
Zabaleta Diop Ogbonna Cresswell
Antonio Noble Rice Anderson
Arnautovic Perez

Subs: Adrian, Masuaku, Obiang, Snoddy, Diangana, Nasri, Carroll

I'm a tad worried given how un-energetic we looked in the Burnley game. Some major rest is needed for certain players in this cup this weekend.

I think we have to win this game tonight, given that we have Arsenal (H), Bournemouth (A) and Wolves (A) as the next three league games.
