Chelsea 2-0 West Ham Utd (08/04/19)

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
The first time I felt we had any rythmn for about 6 weeks was that 20 minute spell in the 2nd half. Snodgrass arrival in place of the waste of space that is chico when he starts (good as a sub) gave us much more oomph in the middle. Anderson noticeably picked up when he had arnie making the runs. Unfortunately Nobles substitution seemed to take the steam out of our revival, Obiang is just a headless chicken. Great to have Baluena back in, although I'd prefer to have Diop with him. Would VAR awarded a penalty against Arnie for his barge on Hazard? Or for the late tackle on Snodgrass?

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
We were set up wrongly from the start. noble and rice behnd 4 attackers away from home was asking for it.
Hernandez looked lost and was awful. he showed little effort.
arnie was in the wrong position meaning we couldn't get up the field as Hernandez couldn't hold the ball
lanzini was again poor and needs to be rested after a bad injury
Anderson was lazy throughout but did cover a bit
much improved when Snodgrass came on and showed some hunger. he is not the best but tries so hard and shows the others up.
noble had a good game and it was a strange decision to take him off at the time.
obiang was awful and needs to leave the club this summer
fredericks was ok and showed start ahead of zabaleta every game now
cresswell was poor most of the game.
rice was outclassed and out muscled by loftus cheek. If only we had him in our midfield.
we tried for a 20 minute spell. This is simply not good enough. we look slow weak and unfit. we are on the beach and I reckon a big defeat is coming on Saturday for this bunch of losers !

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
The team played to a tactical method, which allowed Chelsea the ball in their own half. Hazard was clearly in great form, but Fredericks did reasonably well against him, as he was attacking down their left. The rest of the defence played with spirit. There was a better sense of leadership.hammerman11 wrote:

Our midfield against theirs was something of a mismatch, but our lot rolled up their sleeves and gave it a go.
It was further forward where we struggled.
Implying that we weren't trying for over an hour is wide of the mark, imo.
We do however only have pride to play for. The game was lost, but not in any shameful manner.
Pellegrini's CBA rang out, as predicted. Felt a lot like an old school derby match.

Good post Proph, we might not have played as well as we could've, a lot of our players are woefully short on confidence and bang out of form, but credit to Pellegrini for going there with an attacking line up, with the intent surely to try to win the game. Something sparked them in the second half, and we gave it a go, on a different night we could have snatched a draw but at the same time we could've lost by 4, isn't that typical West Ham.
Anderson, Lanzini and Arnie are currently playing nowhere near their best, Noble looks a bit lost at the moment, Cresswell is struggling, we are very much crawling over the finish line, which is why it is imperative that Pellers is backed in the summer to bring more of his own players in, more players who he can trust.
I appreciate what he is trying to do, he just doesn't have the tools at his disposal at the moment.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
we didn't do anything in the first half and only had a 20 minute patch in the second so yes we didn't do anything for over an hour !
I don't mind losing if we give it a go but players like Hernandez, cresswell obiang are not up to the level we need.
aside from the top 6 sides who would take our players apart from the bottom 4 teams.
Balbuena was good on his return and fabianski also.
rice was poor last night.
Anderson is too weak and lazy at times.
lanzini not the player he was
arnie cant be arsed most of the time and wants out
noble is past it
obiang awful
etc etc
we are on the beach and have been since wimbledon.
I cant see us winning another game this season the way we approach games. how many times do we start slow ?

You said we didn't try. That's different from whether we achieved anything.hammerman11 wrote:we didn't do anything in the first half and only had a 20 minute patch in the second so yes we didn't do anything for over an hour !
If we'd gone gung-ho, all match, their better players would have shredded us.

we didn't do anything or try in the first half !
no one says go gung ho but at least pass the ball to each other and put some effort in.
The trouble is too many old and unfit players.
big clearout needed and some younger hungry players in.
what is the point of having obiang and perez on the bench ? rather coventry holland silva diagana johnson given a chance. At least they would try !

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
Unfortunately, when i start seeing a run of matches where pretty much no-one in the team is up to par and it looks like we're set up incorrectly and the subs don't seem right, then you have to start looking at the manager. We spent most of this season grinding out results without the likes of Lanzini and others injured but when we have them back we're a lot worse.
Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
It wouldn't be a surprise now if we didn't get another away point. Even the home games are against in form Leicester and a fighting against relegation Southampton. We went down in 2003 with 42 points so I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that there are a few more teams sh*ttier than us this season.

If we hadn't have tried, they would have won 6 or so to nil.hammerman11 wrote:we didn't do anything or try in the first half !
They had several WC semi-finalists and a WC winner in midfield, possibly the best in Europe. They had Hazard. They had a new England international, who looks every bit a future star.
That is what we were up against. Playing Coventry, Holland and Diangana in a match of that nature would have been ridiculous.
Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
First half dire, second half no bad. Arnie, Hernadez, Andersen, Lanzni all looked to be firing at a quarter of their potential
Why was no one clipping Hazard, the only one booked was Ogbonna, the amount of times someone should've just took him as unreal

Didn't even notice Lanzini in the first half.
Hazard's first goal though was a combination of magic and naivety.
The second goal Cresswell was guilty of letting him go.
Still better after Everton but Hernandez is not suited for a lone striker and Arnie doesn't look motivated.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
thought chelsea played very well, closed us down all over the pitch , Rice was out battled by loftus cheek , visibly better and more competetive 2nd half and at least made a game of it , Hazard is clearly a couple of levels above everybody else on the pitch . really fancied us to turn them over tbh , but they were on their game last night.

Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
People need to stop equating poor performances simply with lack of effort. It is lazy analysis that lacks effort in itself.
There were many reasons we lost but I didn't see evidence of a lack of effort, we just weren't set up very well and couldn't get any kind of grip on the game.
We are low in confidence that is for sure and that is affecting performances.

johnnyb……. it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't get another point full stop. Unless some drastic steps are taken in the summer we're in for the mother of all relegation battles next season.
Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
Yep, and moving Arnautovic into the middle.brownout wrote:We played well from the moment Snodgrass came on to the moment Noble went off.
Why make that sub at all? We were controlling the ball until the minute Pellers made the sub, Obiang for Noble pretty much ended our resurgence and gave the ball back to Chelsea.
Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
That next level bullsh*t. They didn't say it would be up though. Pellegrini won't hang about too long if he senses another struggle looming.hammerleroy wrote:johnnyb……. it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't get another point full stop. Re: ⚽ Chelsea v West Ham Utd: match thread (8/4)
We were pretty useless all around really. I thought Rice had his worst game since Arsenal.
The speed of thought is too slow. By the time a player has chosen his pass, it's being watched by four of the opposition and is cut out.
Snodgrass revitalised things and we looked better but there was a move where there was some slick passing and it was ****ed into the box...to no-one...a move that was tailor made for Chicha who'd been subbed off.
A top notch manager, £100m investment in the team, and I still shout the same stuff I did at Bilic's London Stadium era team.
