Was just catching up on our game as funnily enough was at Atletico v Celta Vigo today. And seeing Gomez name crop up made me comment, as I watched him today and he was outshone by other celts Vigo players. He looked far from a £50m striker. Can’t judge on one game but apparently he’s been off the boil a few months now and certainly today I saw that, he may have it in him but I would not be rushing to buy him at even a third of that based on today’s game.Peaches wrote: A couple of other things stood out, firstly we need an overhaul of our forwards, with a player like Gomez up front we would have scored 4

Churlish to dig anyone out after that performance. No one was less than a 7.
No surprise we play like that with Snodders through the middle in a midfield three but ultimately, tactics aside our best players showed up today.
As Ray said earlier the difference between us and the top sides is the inconsistency of our individuals. Exhibit A: Felipe Anderson. Pants for the last 6 weeks, today almost unplayable.
Don’t even get me started on the officials.....

watch Real and Barca games and have done for 3-4 years.
probably seen Gomez say 12+ times based on that, but realistically with our games conflicting etc. let's say 8 times maybe 6+
never said to myself "wow he's brilliant."
however his team is struggling and I bow to those who have seen something in him that I haven't
maybe his head has been turned like Arnie's
and again having great layers around him (Uruguay) he might look great. with our lot - maybe not

Moley
bubbles hit on it loads of times
we unfortunately have players who go from 3/10 to 8/10 in the same week. Anderson is the epitome of that
we need a load of even 7/10's - we would be higher up the table if they were, however maybe they wouldn't be here very long..

So bored of the classic "Man Utd" performance by the officials.
Should have been 1-0 up early doors, and it was never a penalty first time around. Not to mention the four or five players offside for their best chance of the game.
Awful officiating - bad enough to make you genuinely question their impartiality.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham Utd: match thread (13/4)
Copped our fair share of home decisions yesterday thats for sure - but I'm not in favour of any VAR.
Since the turn of the year and Arnies antics, I felt we have played better and with more spiirt in the games without him - and so it proved again.
There's a lot to take from a spirited performance like this, and plenty to keep the head up. I like Antonio being played up front because he has pace, power and the willing. He will get his fair share of goals too. Desperately unlucky yesterday.
Well pleased with the amounts of shots, and those on target too. Thought if anything, we could have had more and sometimes wasted that final ball when a move looked promising.
We were winning all the second balls almost throughout the whole game. Pleasing to see.
I know in football you create your own luck to a certain degree - well they didn't yesterday. They simply got lucky full stop.
Oh well, we still have something to play for - we ain't safe yet.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham Utd: match thread (13/4)
a welcome surprise performance from the hammers. officials are corrupt in my opinion . biased towards top 6 teams all day long. They couldn't allow us to spoil the battle for top 4 could they ?
performance wise I thought masuaka was top drawer and so much better than cresswell. However he has to keep playing like that from now on.
Hernandez was disappointing and we really need a presence up top if we play only one striker. Antonio instead of arnie if he is not available. If onlt we had a striker to finish off our chances.
Lanzini was just starting to get into the game when he came off. another 10 mins and I suspect we would have seen the real manu emerging. I hope its nothing serious but at least its not the knee !
fredericks was unlucky he got caught out so soon after coming on. zab did well and wasn't skinned because noble and co covered
rice was MOTM closely followed by masuaka. Pogba was given MOTM as manure were at home and you cant upset the sponsors
such a shame we got done by the cheats that are the officials. VAR I fear wont help us as much as we may hope next season. Off the top of my head apart from today there was the Liverpool farce with their offside goal and attempts . Plus the man city dodgy penalty.3/4 points lost because of the officals in two games ! apparently it evens out ? we did have Hernandez handball goal I suppose.
onto our next match and a very tricky home game gainst leicester !

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham Utd: match thread (13/4)
Both of their penalties came from players who were looking to get one, as opposed to looking to score.
Mata's was just farcical, but, whilst of course Fredericks fouled his man, Martial was not shaping to shoot. He was trying to shield the ball - from about 8 yards out.
I hope Barca repeat this type of activity.
It's a pathetic way to go about playing a football match.

It will be more satisfying for me if they lost in the manner we did yesterday.
City can play them off the park in the derby.

Man City also got an offside goal against us in the first match (the fourth - yeah game was well beyond us then).hammerman11 wrote:such a shame we got done by the cheats that are the officials. Diangana was denied a blatant penalty in one of his first games, I think there was a good case for one for Arnie too in the same game.
VAR won't solve the issues - Australia has been using it for a few seasons and some of the VAR decisions are quite baffling.
Citing their domestic experience, Australia opposed the use of VAR at the World Cup. They then became victims of an overturned VAR decision that was considered dubious at the time. A struggling French team were the beneficiaries, and VAR wasn't used when it could have been to punish multiple instances of French play-acting in trying to get a booked Australian player sent-off.
In the final group match Senegal (I think) had a clear penalty overturned by VAR because the defender was deemed to have touched the ball before ploughing through the attacker, (by contrast the French had been awarded their penalty on the gounds that there was a slight nick on Griezmann's trail foot (being dragged ready to dive) after the ball had been cleanly intercepted. Senegal lost and were were eliminated despite having taken four points from the first two games, and the conspiracy theorists pointed out that no African (and with the exception of Japan from the same group, no Asian) teams blighted the knockout stages in Russia's World Cup and outstayed the glorious hosts.

Me and the missus watched it on BT. We was ****ing fuming over the first goal disallowed, I am still angry.Smonnie wrote:So bored of the classic "Man Utd" performance by the officials.

Penalty, never.
As far as I am concerned, and Ole Gunner as well, we won that 3 to 1.
Ref and lino!! Clearly both Mancs. ****ing cheating ****ers.

Well I hope Barca put them out with a hugely controversial goal. That'll give the so-called pundits something to talk about forever! And yes we were cheated yesterday but what does anyone expect up there!

Still don't know how we lost that. Goal should have stood, penalty for their first was a joke, Mata went down like a sack of **** and the ref couldnt wait to give it. Bet the ref and his team wont be held to account over those decisions but you can bet there would be uproar if the roles were reversed.
Annoying thing is Martial never looked like he was going to score for their second and was just waiting for the foul. Frederick's should never have dived in.
Is this also the first time this season Antonio's mazy run, cut in and leather it with his left foot has actually threatened the goal?
Pogba MOTM. f*** off.

Have our players suddenly learned how to receive the ball at their feet, beat the marker, pass and move and make penetrative passes ?
Or was that an example of, as Murphy said, playing against a badly set up side.? Players were receiving the ball in acres of space...OLS needs to be introduced to pressing.
