Anderson is so mercurial. I wish we had spent the money on solidifying our defense with a top class centre half, rather than on a talented, but streaky, winger.
There's a lot of truth in that. Exactly how I feel.
They're hard to come by. Even the big heads have trouble getting hold of top class cb's.
ManU spent about 60M on 2CB's and STILL have Jones and Smalling at the heart of their defence...[/quote]
True, they seem harder to come by nowadays. On the other hand, they are worth their weight in gold as they save so many points over a season, which rarely gets the attention it deserves.
I have to say our free kick thingy is driving me nuts.
it hardly ever works and today was a complete fiasco. first they couldn't get the defenders back 10 yards and then after Snoddy went off, Anderson and Noble had an Abbot and Costello routine which seemed to get cocked up completely
Last week two marginal offside calls the opposite side from links cost us a win. This week.a clear onside from the linos side costs us. Probably influenced by how annoyed the Leicester players were about the previous onside goal.
Pathetic though. VAR gives us 6 points instead of 1

Edit - Cuenc, didn’t see your post, the above isn’t aimed at you
I’m not digging him out - he is a great player. But I just think our defense is more of a shambles, and would have been the area to invest in.
And it is not just central defense. The full backs are well pat their sell buy date, and this is a big concern, as these are players who are important also in an attacking sense as they provide the overlapping runs.

Love Anderson. He ain't always gonna get it right, pesicslly defensively but he tries real hard most of the time. Blokes quality and fortunate to have him. Really decent first season.
Nice day out, good game between two evenly matched teams, jolly atmosphere, Masuaku and Snodders were superb. The Antonio/Chilwell battle was a great watch.
Nicely worked goals by both teams.
We looked a bit fatigued and leaden footed for their first and the team, like most of the stadium, had switched off and were muttering in disbelief at the officals for some of their decisions when the second came.
Vardy - like him or loathe him - has been one of the outstanding centre forwards in the league for four seasons now.

Yeah, that is probably the biggest issue. There isn’t anyone who can take up Noble’s mantle. Wilshire just seems like an expensive addition to our injury list.

but you'd have rather we bought another centre back instead?
We played well for much of the game, and we've been back in form since the second half against Chelsea. I know it's a bit disappointing not to win, especially with the combination of official error and the injury time goal, but we weren't exactly in a cup final or relegation six pointer.
Our games against Leicester and Watford have consistently been among the best to watch since we've gone to Stratford.
I’m with Patito, is Anderson not the sort of player we ‘demand’ as West Ham supporters? Mercurial, frustrating, moments of genius? 10 goals and a number of assists in his first Premier League season. Another CB ffs?!
A really enjoyable game of football between two evenly matched teams who were both going full pelt to win the game, plus the sun was shining. Can't ask for much more than that
Some of our players played really well, especially Masuaku and Antonio, and no-one was under-par. We played some lovely football at times and all we were missing was a proper goalscorer to get on the end of many very good crosses that were slung across the box. if ever a game needed Hernandez it was this one
we may only have picked up a point but it was the best we have played at home for a while
