Didn't realise that - that makes a difference.

Disappointing that Holland isn't going to China though, I'd have liked him to have been given a chance. I'm not really keen on Diangana, and that's not just based on this game but on when I've seen him last season too. I think he's a bit over-rated at the mo and would benefit from a season on loan to a decent Championship team. Snodgrass doesn't really have what it takes as a winger anymore either. I'm hoping Yarmolenko gets up to speed quickly this pre-season as he could be a very useful player next season. Might take him quite a few games to get back into the swing of it.

I agree about Holland. I wonder if he’s sorted a loan or something?

I like these games cos everybody is still fit.

Wilshere, Reid, byram, Yarmolenko, Sanchez all on a pitch together. What a wonderful world.

Pleased to see Reid back he didn't have much to do but he didn't look noticably different in terms of athleticism to how he did pre injury which is good. I thought Byram actually played well when he came on at left back, i also thought Lanzini and Wilshere both did well. All in all a decent performance in our first game back.

I'm going to donate that win to 'PaddyOhammer' who took my advice and stayed behind his sofa. We always win when does. Thank you Paddy, you can come out again next May

I think Grady has grown in confidence. Hope to see more of him next season.

I don't think he's near ready for the first team yet imo. His confidence is growing but he's still very lightweight and still lacks an end product. Decision making is also very suspect when defending. If he's in the first team next season then we really should be in the market for a new winger.

And I'm not just saying this based on this one match. He'll improve no doubt, and he has a lot of potential - but he's not quite ready yet imo.

Just watched the first half. I know it’s only the first game of pre-season but does it get better in the second?

Thought we were going to keep the ball better this season?

I’d rather Grady gets game time in cup games and from the bench for us. Don’t think players going on loan ever ends well. It’s more or less usually a mark these days that they’re not good enough for the first team and probably never will be

Maybe Cullen will eventually buck that trend

He was great for us last year in the league cup

Got to love preseason.

Accrington Stanley just beat a Marseille team with Payet and Sanson in it, 2-1.

We will eventually. We've only done a bit of stamina training so far to help everyone run around the pitch for 90 minutes trying to win possession back.

Tomorrow we start learning how to pass to teammates again.

One thing that was noticeable today was how we almost entirely attacked down the left once Zabaleta came on. He's not particularly good at driving forward with the ball and almost always passes inside. He also didn't get forward much today and Yarmolenko didn't really have anyone to link with.

Johnson drives forwards well but tries to do a little bit too much sometimes ie tries and takes it past a player instead of playing a simple pass. Other than that, for a youngster on his first pre-season game, I thought he looked quite decent.

Wilshere will be a real player for us this season if he stays fit. He's exactly the type of player we need in the side to improve our possession play. He makes it look easy the way he just glides around the pitch.

I'd like to see us press harder and defend better from the front. Hernandez offers little physical presence when up top on his own. I'd rather see us a bit more heavyweight and have a Haller or a Rondon charging around causing havoc.

I also noticed that our more attacking central midfielders (noble, wilshere, lanzini, cullen, etc) were frequently failing to track runners. Once our midfield had been bypassed, they were frequently too slow to get back and help.

Anderson probably looked the sharpest out of everyone in the team.

Nothing as sinister and underhand as how it sounds. :D

I watched the game on West ham's YouTube channel via 2 Geordie boys commentating and thanking people donating some money in which means people can watch all pre season games in future. And every once in a while, someone donating in would have their name flashed up on screen and read out by the 2 gullible wallies semi commentating. Hence this meant some Hammers sending in donations just so they could have piss taking names and comments read out. Very amusing at the time.

I really liked the performance of Johnson, Bryam and, most of all, Wilshere...

If he can stay away from Injuries, he could be become some great sign...
