That was more worthy of VAR than any of the ones that were actually referred.

When referring to teams in the same professional league, I concur.

Fwiw, I just re-listened to the commentary re: Wilshere's sub. Commentator mentions that he was subbed due to a problem with his leg and ended up needing an ice pack.

No, and if we do, it's never severe enough.

Today, every time Man. City lost the ball in a tackle, it's almost if their first reaction is to complain to the ref. Basically, it's mind games.

The best exponents ever at this tactic was the scum (AKA Man. Utd.).

Probably from one of the many un-carded fouls by Rodri..

Apols for quoting myself here, but re Wilshere...

Rodrigo warned as he goes through the back of Wilshere. That one hurt. "That's two now", Mike Dean tells the City man.

It wasn’t that long ago these ***** were losing league games to York City. They’ll probably keep hold of the Carabao Cup also with half a team aswell. We’ve had spankings by the best many times before, but it just seems a world away this time, and I’m not sure if that hurts more or should make you more disillusioned with the whole thing...

if that Rodri dude played for us , he would have had a yellow card in the first half 100% sure.
Dean is an idiot , refs always doing favours to the so called big clubs, the VAR isnt going to end that , we have seen it already.

When was the last time we won the opening game?

Charlton 3-1 in 2006-7?
Didn't we beat Arsenal when Slav took over?

Seem to remember Kouyate getting a header, but can't remember if that was the first game or not.

All this stuff about it was man City so almost guaranteed to get thrashed is bollox (imho). Yes they are much better than us and yes there is a financial gap but that is not a reason to excuse poor performances across the park. That let's the players and manager off IMHO.
We simply did not compete in any facet of the game and that is not really acceptable whoever we play.
First half we played a bit better and at least made a game of it. Second half we were shockingly bad and, in essence, gave up

Why are we so quiet? Do you think Man City would put up with one of their players fouled, knocked to the floor 4 or 5 times & Ref gave f** all. Talking about Lanzini for us. Just a bang on the floor, a wry smile & gets on with it.....If it was City they would be surrounding the Ref & making comments to him 10 minutes after the incident.

Big sides have their way of exerting max pressure on the Referees. Silva claiming a corner after he took a shot, & was obvious it hit no WH player. Diop with the header that just went over, clipped the top of John Stones head, not one player claimed a corner (It was a corner). Those little things add up & the Ref feels compelled to give something later in the game.

Still not despondent, I think we'll have a very good season.
They kicked Wilshere off the pitch with 2 bad tackles
The ref offered him no protection

Some teams have your card marked though, don't they.

Much like us with Spurs.

Wonder if Antonio was subbed because of the first goal and the 5 minute spell thereafter that Cresswell was left 2 on 1 repeatedly with Antonio not tracking his runner....
It didn’t work out - but could that have been the logic? I was surprised at the time tbh as wasn’t expecting half time subs. Pellegrini obviously didn’t know that Anderson would pull up shortly after.

It weren’t so much fitness but character we lacked. Not one person got angry, or outraged. They accepted it, every foul, every mistake, every injustice. To compete at this level especially against the odds, you first need to be competitive in the mind. But we had nothing but fear and resignation in our eyes. There was no belief. No fight. No fire. We lost because we didn’t believe we could win.

There was a moment when Cresswell laughed when we were 2 nil down. I was stunned. What was funny about losing? We lacked leadership today.

I don’t get var, foul on build up to last goal, encroachment on penalty retake not even checked ( which wasn’t even a penalty )

It's games like this where we miss Kevin Nolan's style of captaincy. He would have spent most of the game in the ref's ear and probably would have gotten carded for taking out Rodri with some retribution.

& the foul on Fornals in the 2nd half? The thud of the challenge, & his scream, I thought he broke his leg.

I forgot who made it, but I certain the Man City player wasn't booked? Is that right?

Mike 'Blue Moon' Dean was a f**king disgrace today when you rethink the major incidents in the game.
