Turns out the thought of playing under Moyes again, was all the motivation needed, absolute masterstroke by Sullivan..

Marting just let something slip on his BBC post match interview. He said he "Hadn't been able to eat for two days", so when did he know he'd be playing?

Probably after watching has against Spurs.

Can't be anything but happy for Martin.

As for the game itself, I thought Pellegrini made the right call playing with 2 banks of 4 to pack the midfield so that we don't get overrun in the critical area. The thing was that even with the 2 banks, we weren't dropping deep(except for the last 10 mins), we still had a high line. The extra bodies in the middle really help slow down their attacks.

The other key decision from Pellers was to have Anderson play a free role just behind Antonio. It forced us to play through the middle rather than trying shovel to the wings under pressure. It also gave us someone to link the midfield to the forward areas - which was something we have been missing over the last few weeks(an absolute disconnect between the back and the front).

All in all, happy with the effort put in. Let's get this season back on track.
Hes not by any means the best coach in the world, but I think letting Haller out and getting Martin in was some kind of masterstroke...

And I agree, we look so much better in the middle with Fornals (who looks to have learn to defend better, run fight for the ball more).

Game was split into 2 parts for me. First 70 minutes was more or less even stevens, they had the ball but hardly did anything, we knocked it around nicely, broke well and scored 1 (maybe 2?).

Special mentions to Antonio. Relentless running up front, one bullet header and one possible goal... all I'm going to say is I hope they had an extra angle that the viewers didn't see because I don't know how it can be ruled out when seeing Sheffield Utd's equaliser against Man Utd/Dele Alli's goal at Everton stand. Brilliant.

Declan Rice - absolutely ****ing exceptional, several key tackles and even broke well and seemed to show very good pace.

David Martin - would have been entitled to be very nervous coming in for us away at Stamford Bridge but really kept his composure and the hug with his Dad sums it up, proper West Ham.

Certainly was helpful for us that we had this game a few days after their crazy game away in Spain, but not taking away from us, superb.

Lampard did us a HUGE favour not starting Willian. he looked to be their biggest outlet and most dangerous player when he came on.

The reaction of those who went to him  , Cresswell ran what seemed like miles to get to him. Fantastic stuff.

At one end of the scale you have Carlosio Kickaballio who "Wants to play in the Premier League", at the other is David Martin, who just knows...

Which one?
I was just going to post that!

Great result today. I had a feeling that it might happen, just because it's so ****ing West Ham to not win for months then get an unexpected victory, but I'm made up for Martin who must have had to dig deep to keep believing that it would happen for him one day. It takes a huge amount of character to keep pushing when it seems like the odds aren't in one's favour, but he apparently has that in spades. Like father, like son. :crest:

Highlight of the day for me. Martin’s reaction would have hopefully reminded a few of what a privilege it is to play for the club.

Something like that, and an all-round gutsy and grafting performance like that, should do wonders for team spirit.

Cue lame defeat at Wolves.

Makes a change to see a defence trying to protect the 'keeper

What a result, really unexpected. David Martin did us and the whole team proud today.

Let us carry on this week with the momentum and see where we are after the Arsenal game next Monday :scarfer:
