Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham United: Match thread (14/12)
Lol
Much better performance and a formation that suited the available players. Two up front was a massive help for Haller, he looked like a player again!!
I thought it was an entertaining game. A bit nervy at the end when they hit the woodwork a couple of times but apart from that they didn’t really offer a great deal. I wasn’t my usually worried self thinking they looked like scoring every time they got near the box like I have been most other games. Defence looked pretty much in control.
Antonio was a beast. Worked his socks off, an excellent performance.
My only gripe really is Fred, he’s not very good. He’s try bless him but he’s not a Prem player.
It also begs the question, where’s that effort been every other week?

we have noble Snodgrass and Anderson who seem to tire every game after 60 -70 minute mark add Antonio returning from injury so needs to be looked after, is it fitness age or the shift they have put in, sometimes any of the reasons but like the arsenal game we did not score enough and invited them on also if we get other players injured out of form we end up dropping deep and inviting them forward without the outlet up front, we need better subs and maybe only play noble or Snodgrass so one can replace the other leaving us two subs left per game

It does indeed!bigcarpchaser wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2019 9:48 am

Perhaps they had a game plan and specific roles therein.
Which I suppose then begs the question, where was that every other week?

I think it's more than the three you mentioned. It does seem to look like some sort of switch goes off and we start to look like we're hanging on for the latter part of the game.waynepin wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2019 10:27 am we have noble Snodgrass and Anderson who seem to tire every game after 60 -70 minute mark add Antonio returning from injury so needs to be looked after, is it fitness age or the shift they have put in, sometimes any of the reasons but like the arsenal game we did not score enough and invited them on also if we get other players injured out of form we end up dropping deep and inviting them forward without the outlet up front, we need better subs and maybe only play noble or Snodgrass so one can replace the other leaving us two subs left per game
It reminds me of when the smaller teams play the "big boys" in the cups. They go off like a steam train only to be bossed with around 20 minutes to go (unless they're playing West ham of course)!
Amongst many other things, fitness/stamina is one of the areas we need to address urgently.

Enzo was talking and pointing with Pellers during the game also

Well then that must beg the question, why isn't he taking it every week?

For me the best part of yesterday was the pace that Antonio brought it made us look a differant team.Theres nothing better to get your supporters going than to see an absolute beast charging at an opponent with speed.Wolves and Newcastle have one and it gets their fans going

I think it fair to say Antonio's Bio rhythms were aligned.
Incredible effort from the lad

Re: ⚽ Southampton v West Ham United: Match thread (14/12)
At last we looked good attacking. A chnage of tactics and a change in effort.
But I fear the clean sheet will disguise just how vulnerable we still are - Southampton were truly atttrocious.
Rice was offside, Antonio handed, so VAR got those right, but how the heck did VAR fail to award a penalty for the fouls on both Antonio and Haller going for the same cross? Truly flummoxed, maybe the ref couldn't decide which defender would get the booking.
And while Southampton had already missed both of these chances, that linesman was flag happy and at least twice flagged for offsides when they were on!
Three much needed points and hopefully a confidence boost.
I've not seen a more bizarre reaction to scoring a goal since Ketsbaia!

Many congratulations Moxy. How are mother and baby doing today?
Three points and a clean sheet away from home is nothing to be sniffed at. Saints improved after the break, but regardless of their poor showing in the first 45 we were very, very good.
I'd like to see us try 3-5-2 as I feel the extra midfield spot gives us a chance to get Anderson on the pitch. Snodders, Rice and Noble central, with Anderson and Fornals wider supporting Haller and Big Mic up front gives us solidity in the middle and attacking options. The only issue is we run the risk of being got at down the channels as Fornals and Anderson aren't defensive enough. Maybe have them covered by Snodders and Noble?
All in though, it's a happy weekend!

Happy to see Fornals getting better and better.
His passing was really nice, must be better for him also that Antonio is up there running his socks off. ( gives more options)
Haller looks also a better player with 2 upfront.
Pellers should take note of this formation, at the moment it suits us.
Yarmolenko en Anderson have their work cut out , they need to improve or get used to a place on the bench.
They should both target Snods place in this formation.

He’s done it on weeks where we’ve lost games too.

Sanchez cracks me up. He's got the most simple job – 10 mins trying to calm things down by making simple passes and getting a few tackles in – and he routinely manages to cock it right up. His nickname should be The Conjuror for his ability to create extra pressure out of nothing.
