Sometimes, just like Dev's v Wigan all those years ago, you know it's a really bad one.

Click at 17.40 - the more you see it, the more excruciatingly painful it looks.
What's crazy is that it almost appears as if he lost consciousness during that, given laying completely motionless, ending up with a physio holding his head the whole time and in a neck brace.

I can't remember where I read it, but I have a recollection of seeing something about his knee swelling up substantially when they tried to bring him back into the fold in pre-season.

Pellegrini: “Winston Reid is playing and working without any problems” - does this mean he's actually match fit and available for selection?

No, it means that he can train, without discomfort.
First he should play in the U23s and maybe a game behind closed doors.

From what I can see, he wasnt part of the last U23 squad, and his only appearance in recent months came in the game prior, and he eas subbed off after 70min.

Done his U23 stint and moved back to first team squad and is now considered fit is how I read it. Fit enough to dislodge one of the others from the bench is another matter.

Only 70 minutes playing time with the youth after what is now an almost 20 month absence, and then senior games, is a high risk approach.
He'll need plenty more minutes without the pressure of the PL.

We have more than enough CBs

I'd speculate Gillingham is the game pencilled in for being in the senior match day squad for the first time in a while.

Sadly I don’t think we will be seeing Reid in the claret and blue again. A real shame to see one of our truly great centre backs of the modern era go out in such a way. He’s responsible for some of the best individual performances and defining moments in recent times. A top, top player in his prime.

What a signing for Kansas. Reid, if fit, would have walked into our team and been our best defender and arguably our best player.

A real coup for the MLS.

Still remember the game against Man. City in which we won 2-1(in that Payet season), he had some insane individual stats that game - something like 22+ clearances(that's usually the amount the whole of the back line normally averages in any typical team). In him prime, he was one of the very few players we had that could produced a match-winning performance. He was a great defender that understood the art of defending.

What a sad way to end his West Ham career. He was one that we should've celebrated more.

I wish him well.

For a decent few years he did well for us ane im grateful to him for that.

The scorer of the last goal at the Boleyn Ground cemented his plac3 in our history.

Good luck in the MLS

Interestingly doesn’t say how long for, wonder if there’s any chance he could come back for pre season if 10-20 games get him back to full fitness.
