Did you ever see Robson & Keane play live? Both were top quality players.
I'll give you Keane, but Robson? Not for me. He was very energetic, and attacked the box well, but his passing and tackling was awful, and, and this is a big point for me, it was he who started the whole aggressive confrontations with Refs when he Man Utd didn't get the decisions, which has been a blight on the game ever since. I don't believe he is in the same class as Keane as a player, the fact that Man Utd had to wait until Robson was no longer a fixture in the team to win Ferguson's first title is very telling. they built a team around him and it wasn't good enough to win the league, only when that team was re-modeled without Robson did Man Utd start to win league titles again. There's also the England thing, '86 and '90 we start with Robson in the team and look awful, he goes off injured in both tournaments, the team is re-shaped around technically better players and we start to look something, rather than a vanity project to one man's reputation. Don't get me started on Euro '88 in which he wasn't injured, and we lost every game! Came bottom of our group, Russia, Holland and Rep Ireland with a minus 7 goal difference and no points from the three games.

One of my favourite memories of Robson in that era against West Ham was of Ray Stewart laying him out, the biter bitten.

I remember those tournaments all too well Estuary :(

Interesting view on Robson, and to a point I agree on the England side of things. Robson falls into that category like our young Declan falls into (I am not comparing by the way!). A lot of what Robson did went unnoticed (like Declan), he use to run games, sometimes by not even having the ball, he controlled it and let other players flourish. I thought he was a fantastic team player.

If he can learn to move between the lines to find space and track a runner better he we will be world class. Easy to forget how old he is really.

A young lad who just loves his football - hope that’s not diminished by being with us. Loved the DiCanio nod as well.

if we carry on like this he will want to go and we will end up selling him below value for 60m to man utd or arsenal.
we are wasting his talent.

get howe or dyche in to coach him and improve him a lot.

I could sit and watch that all day..in fact those two blokes are brilliant.

whoever they end up with they have so much fun doing it - little aspiring footballers would do well watching a week of their technical stuff.

obviously they all had an absolute blast doing that

Quality. Maybe we should start him up front and tell him to shoot on sight.

Back to his best and very timely against the clueless tossers that released him. Form temporary, class permanent and all that.

I wonder what Roy Keane thought of today's performance ?
