That was quality. Another moment that sticks in the kind at some point in the first half where he showed exceptional close control under pressure on the half way line close to the managers technical area I think it was. So calm and composed and in control. The boy has a fair bit of technical ability I don't think he gets enough credit for. He really is a Rolls-Rice.

He'll be a player worth over £100m one day in today's market for what he offers. I just hope we never, ever sell him to find out just exactly how much he really could fetch for him. I want him to be our 'John Terry' was for Chelsea, to build a Club around if we are serious about being a 'Big Club', because that's the type of quality you need to achieve it. Ironically the role reversal has happened between both players starting their initial careers at opposing Clubs. And I think it's possible, as long as you pay him accordingly, have a top quality manager and show enough ambition as a Club to keep pushing on. The tricky but for me is the latter but let's see how we get on in the next couple of years whilst he's still here, as the summer was a great start...

We'll start the bidding low at £100m.

And I'm serious. Haven't seen a talent like this for a while.

I suppose it's how you measure his potential. ?......If he's this good now, what will he be like in 4 years time.

Very good ageing...

The fact that he has played so well against a team who may well win the league and who fielded a £100m midfield pairing is really going to mark him out.

It's standout performances against that calibre of opposition that really jolts the attention of the top clubs.

De Jong appears at this stage to be a more fluid and creative player, and that comes with a premium. At this stage, I'd say we're at 'John Stones' transfer fee level.

That surge past Fabinho, if replicated fairly regularly, was younger Billy Bonds-ish and for the watching scousers a little Gerrard like and that will pile on the pounds.

We're close to a point where the majority of our front six is close to top drawer if we could get them all fit and on the pitch together.

Most times possession won in the midfield third so far this season:

Ndidi 113
Jorginho 112
Rice 110

You'd swear by his style he's been studying Bobby Moore videos. The lad just keeps getting better and more famouser....and more valuable :scarfer:

Noted it in the match thread after the game, but he made so many tackles on Monday night. Just checked the numbers on whoscored and they are terrific - 11 attempted, 8 completed. Those numbers must be pretty up there for a single game performance across the league.

What I love most, is the way he always manages to win the ball back, whilst staying on his feet, what a skill that is!

Absolutely remarkable talent for a lad of his age.

That reservations for a young player getting a big pay rise, based on experience with another young player getting a big pay rise were legitimate.

Unless there was another point you were trying to make by saying some on here "were against him getting a big pay rise"?

Yeah, having reservations about doing something is exactly the same as never doing it again.

Ok.

quite a few people were adamant that because of the Oxford situation we should NEVER do that again...

doesn't seem to work with our transfer policy and signing previously injured players does it ?

each case on it's own merit.

like all transfers, there's an inherent risk that things will go pear shaped.

doesn't mean you have to shyte yourself in case it does

you might be a glass half empty type of fella too...
