another big test for little west ham against the mancs second team. we need a good win over a big team to really launch us. win this and we should go top 4 which would be remarkable. I note Bournemouth are 3rd and we play them next , so no easy games.

pelle needs to get us starting better as we seem to take a while to get going. quicker passing in the final 3rd is also required.

he will be wanting to deliver big time against man utd for sure.

Bournemouth is another one of our bogey teams, especially away from home. We'll do well to get a point from that fixture. Hopefully we can make use of home advantage and get a good result against Man. Utd. I think we'll do well, but nothing is a given.

Putting a novice up against an experienced, top class coach was only ever going to end one way!

Sorry, not sure what thread to post this in, but as I only get to see MOTD highlights, a question:

Before the season started, the general consensus seemed to be that we would be seeing a lot of high scoring games at both ends of the pitch due to our wealth of attacking talent and our failure to strengthen our defence, but so far in six games we have scored 8 and conceded 7; by contrast "one nil to the" Arsenal have scored 11 and conceded 10.

So what has happened differently to expectations?

Diop has a Prem season under his belt and looks more confident due to it. Fredericks is coming good. Ogbonna has taken his chance after Balbuena's injury (Balbuena also has a season under his belt). Our left back situation looks like it might be a genuine competition which can only make them better.

Everything is just more stable back there.

And consequently, we haven't needed to throw caution to the wind quite so extravagantly to stay in games.

I've never felt like there was more of a plan under any manager than Pellegrini. He is absolutely sensational.

I was thinking exactly the same. A little bit strange isn't it?

A sign of excellent coaching.

He's clearly drilled it in to the players (all the players) the importance of defending as a Team and everyone's working for one another all over the pitch. You're seeing the likes of Fornals, Yarmolenko and Anderson working hard in our own half and not switching off so much when it comes to defending these days.

There were signs of it last season too when we didn't suffer so many injuries in defence, like keeping a regimented backline, coming out together for offsides, not going to ground cheaply. The Team defensively just looks even more polished than before with players now familiar with his methods and tactics.

The other good sign that our defence has improved is Fabianski isn't having to work as hard as before. He's still as reliable as ever, but now it appears he's having to make less saves. Maybe that's just a perception but other than the City game I don't think he's had to work nearly as hard as last season.

Only two goals conceded in 5 games that is fantastic and down to a stable settled defence and a great keeper. Well done to Pellers and co.

I feel that Bournemouth, with Wilson and King, could well be the acid test.

They are in good form as a team and did the double over us last year.

He doesn't make a fuss, just goes about his business quietly. Doesn't blame anyone when we lose, is gracious when we win, and most importantly he has a spectacular barnet.

Whoever wins this game might just start to have ideas above what are supposed to be our stations.

The manager I would dearly like to see replace our current manager hopefully. It won't happen because Howe will have been snapped up by then but he would be the natural successor to our maestro.

Not only that, but we do give space for people to have shots outside the box and Harry Wilson looks up there with the best from range
