Pochettino whinging

Post by V-M » Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:06 pm

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham Hotspur need help from English football bosses after his side were given one day fewer to prepare for their Champions League last 16 second leg tie than hosts Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs, who won the home leg 3-0, drew with Arsenal on Saturday, while Dortmund lost to Augsburg on Friday.

"It's strange that no-one has said anything about that," said Pochettino.

"It's impossible that one team has 24 hours more to prepare. It's massive."

The Spurs boss continued: "We need help from the FA, we need help from the Premier League.

"I don't know whose fault it is. I don't know whether it is the FA, the Premier League, the club or the TV [who] wanted the matches to be on those days."

Cant see them going out with a 3 goal lead, seems odd to be moaning about this, it quite regular in this day for a team to have a bit more recovery time.

I also assume the Germans played Friday night whilst spurs kicked off the following lunchtime, so its not even 24 hours.

Interesting that the quote on Sky Sports is more damning of THFC:

BBC:

"I don't know whose fault it is. I don't know whether it is the FA, the Premier League, the club or the TV [who] wanted the matches to be on those days."

SKY:

"I don't know whether to blame the FA or to blame the Premier League or to blame Tottenham because we changed the day because we still not deliver our new stadium or the TV because they wanted us to play live on Saturday.

f*** them, you qualified for the tournament, got all the riches that come with, you can afford a better squad to handle it.

Why should we be steering things even more in favour of the top 6, they don't represent me when they play in Europe, in fact I'd go so far as to actively support the other team.

I'm all for the FA not moving things to help the so-called big clubs out

Agreed, I've never understood this view of supporting the English clubs, especially these days, the better these big clubs do means more money and a bigger gap between them and us and the rest, really we want them all to fail miserably

Turning into a proper prima donna. A less humorous version of Mourninho.

Its a strange argument.Dortmund can play when they like, if Spurs had arranged to match Dortmund by playing at the same time on Friday, all Dortmund would need to do would be to move their fixture to the Thursday, then the Wednesday, Tuesday or even the weekend before, where they could play some sort of double banker against a lower team.
By his sort of logic he may as well complain thats it a lot harder for Spurs because the Prem is more competitive then the German league (apparently).
Its just not fair!!

He’s turning into an annoying hybrid of Mourinho and Wenger.

Manager in "wanting what is best for his team" shocker
I would hope that if we ever get into Europe we also have a manager who presses for these things, however unfeasible they are to implement

A lot of what managers spout is just psychological mind games to put the pressure on the other team or take publicity away from the players. I doubt managers really believe half the stuff the say, but it is part of the job

His side had their match moved to an earlier kick off. Not sure what his problem is

Fixture congestion is par for the course when you are playing in Europe.

If he wanted the North London derby to be on Friday night, they would have needed to push the Chelsea game back to last Tuesday and then he would have moaned that he had less time after the Burnley game to prepare for Chelsea.

The cracks are starting to appear. If they concede in the first 15 mins tonight he's going to go into full meltdown.

How was it 24 hours?

Dortmund lost to Augsburg and it was a 7.30pm kick off.

Spurs got a lucky point against Arsenal with a 12.30pm kick off on the Saturday.

This is beyond clutching at straws.

He has a valid point.

Especially the Spanish FA is good at making adjustments to appease their members. Both in regards to playing in Europe and playing for their national sides.

Minus the trophies. Could kind of swallow it from big managers at big clubs who were winning things.

Spurs have somewhat gatecrashed the UCL party and now want to be calling the shots in terms of when the rest of us have to play our games.

Get over yourselves.

Maybe he is just getting in early as he can see a colossal bottle job coming in Dortmund tonight. 10-1 for Dortmund to go through.

you know i'd written this one off given that they're 3-0 up, but hearing this i fancy a classic spurs bottlejob coming on.
