Hopes and expectations for next season

Post by BondsoBob » Sat May 25, 2019 8:00 am

I realise this may be a little bit early, so mods please feel free to delete if
necessary.
So what are your hopes and expectations for next season?
I hope and expect us to push on for top 8. Which I think is achievable, at a push, with the manager that we have.
What I really hope for is for us to give the cups a real go. I've seen us win the FA cup 3 times, so I suppose I've been a little bit spoilt, as I know there are thousands upon thousands of Hammers who have never seen us lift a trophy (a proper one anyway). Strangely enough I would quite like us to win the league cup, as we've never won that. But I would just like to have that experience and feeling one more time before I go to the great stadium in the sky.
However, I expect the cups will once again be way down on the club's list of priorities. I sometimes wonder if SGB actually realise how long it is since we won anything. :(

Expectations - None. Why bother?

Hopes - Play football the right way again.

I don't need a tangible benchmark to measure progress.

A cup is way top of my hope list, and most realistic to any silverware we could win in terms of expectation.
Silverware in the league is out of bounds to probably 90% of the league so in that respect we are no worse off than 17 other clubs on the opening day of the season.
Obviously a strong league season would be great, but i would genuinely forfeit premier league status if someone said we could win the FA Cup in return.

More generally than just us - I think Leicester, Wolves and ourselves will make next season's premier league more competitive, as will the three that come up compared to those who went down (nearly everyone knew Huddersfield and Cardiff would go before a ball was kicked, while Fulham were as useless as huddersfield).

I have a vague suspicion that one from this year's mid-table undercard will make top 6.

Hopes high, expectations less so.

I don't just want a good run in one of the cups, I want to win one of them, it'll be 40 years since a (proper) trophy next year, it's about ****ing time.

Win a Cup. The rest is meaningless.

That's the expectation.

The hope is that we do it by drawing a top 6 club in the final...

...and wiping the floor with them.

Hopefully, we'll finish at least 17th and out of the Cup in the 3rd or possibly 4th round.

If we have no significant 'outs' and a few crucial 'in's' then we should qualify for Europa League. A cup run would be a massive bonus.

I reckon we could surprise a few next season.

I certainly think Leicester have a decent chance of breaking into the top 6 at the expense of Man U. Otherwise, without knowing the state of our squad or others, 7th is the best we could hope for Id say. Until we play our strongest team in the cups, we can continue to dismiss our chances in those.

Continue to play the right way, but tighten up at the back. We need to add more consistency, if we can do that then I see no reason why we can’t achieve 60 points and a good cup run.
