West Ham's worst ever forward.

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

West Ham's worst ever forward.

Post by BondsoBob » Tue Jul 09, 2019 1:28 pm

So we've had 'West Ham's worst ever centre back', which looks to have been comfortably won by Gary Breen. What about our worst ever forward? For starters I give you Sandy Clarke, signed from St. Mirren IIRC.
Absolutely useless, couldn't hit the proverbial barn door. Stayed just the one season I think then went back to Scotland.

John Carew is in with a shout

Watching him every week running through treacle was soul destroying. Had the manoeuvrability of a cruise ship!

No-one will ever touch John Radford's record.

Cost £80,000 from Arsenal, stayed for two seasons, scored no goals.

He then signed for Notts County, for whom I believe he scored a hat-trick on his debut. Beat that!

Think we've had worse forwards than defenders.

Zaza has to be in contention.

Also Mike Newell

And big bad Benni Mac

If they scored a goal for us, they aren't the worst we've ever had.

Andy Carroll is a farcical suggestion.

Shouldn't we narrow it down to the worst 10 or 20 thousand forward players first?

Yep remember him well watching him and waiting for that elusive goal, what a pup WHU was sold. Not for the first time mind.

Pretty sure John Radford went to Blackburn from us, and scored on his debut for them. I could be wrong though. It was a long time ago. :P

Yep, I think there were two John Radford's, one was hugely successful player for Arsenal, 379 appearances and 111 goals. Then there was a look-a-like one that drove a bus and was awful at football, that's who we signed.

Benni McCarthy
Yaniv Katan

Those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

Aliadiere wasn’t quite as bad, but so much more was expected.

At least Sandy Clarke scored for us. John Radford on the other hand, no goals in 28 games! We bought him just a couple of months before West Brom bought Laurie Cunningham from the Orient - right under our noses.

So, Laurie Cunningham was available, but we went for John Radford :thdn: ....only at West Ham....
