West Ham's worst ever forward.

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

I'm not sure he counts as our worst ever striker but a few seasons ago I was privileged to witness a sublime example of Zaza's incompetence at Old Trafford. He attempted a shot from outside the penalty area. The ball didn't go near the goal, it didn't even go forward. It curled away towards the far touchline in a slow, painful arc, and actually went out of of play behind where he stood. Truly remarkable. Groans and laughter all round. And we've probably had far worse up front than him.

Oh come on now! Who can ever forget that stonking header from Ian Dowie at Stockport in 1997?
(The fact that it was in our own net is irrelevant! )

I think for money spent and expectation, Zaza wins it for me.

Woodford beat me to David Kelly, but f**k me! less than two pages in and it's already depressingly grim reading.

Watching a front two of Mike Newell and Steve Jones some time around 1997 was a sole destroying experience.

I remember watching us play a dreadful Nottingham Forest team, who would go on to be relegated, at home on a freezing cold day some time around christmas and it still gives me nightmares 20+ years on.

It really is isn't it? Mind you, if we do it for worst goalkeeper there can be only one winner!

sandy clarke did score goals for us in the top division , hardly our worst ever striker , same as david kelly who despite being born with bambi's legs also scored for us

If you rule out any forward to score a goal for the club these are the players with the most appearances as a striker without scoring in the modern era.

John Radford 28
Benni McCarthy 14
Titi Camara 14
Kaba Diawara 11 (might be unfair i believe he played as a winger quite often)
Simone Zaza 11
Henri Camara 10
Mido 9
Mike Newell 7
Alex Bunbury 6

For me whenever i think of bad times at West Ham it was the pre Hartson and Kitson era. We had Dowie who never scored in his last 40 league games for the club, Steve Jones who tried hard but was out of his depth and Mike Newell who was miles past it by the time we signed him. The match which always springs to mind is the 2-0 loss to Leeds who only scored 28 goals all season and our attack was so bad in comparison we made them look like 1970 Brazil.

Special mentions to the 2016-17 Zaza, Fletcher and Calleri trio who combined for 2 goals in about 40 appearances for the club and the Mido and McCarthy strike force which was dreadful.

For me it will always be latter day Dowie, Newell, Zaza and Henri Camara who was so bad he was the man responsible for the Freddie Sears hype. McCarthy, Mido and Titi Camara were all diabolical but they should never have been signed by the club for being obviously unfit to play professional football.

Perhaps not the worst, but I remember walking down Tottenham Court Road after work and seeing an Evening Standard headline: "West Ham sign world cup star". My head was buzzing wondering who it was. Got the paper and saw it was Alex Bunbury!

Savio was basically Ali Dia and some backhanded deal
Carew was class when younger then seemed to have give up once he hit late 20's
Keane still gives me nightmares to this day with that Blackburn miss
Zavon Hines somehow played more than 1 games for us, baffles me, non-league footballer If I ever see one
Benni Mac and Piq were annoying, Benni was a very good goal scorer who ballooned to 20 stone and Piq was brilliant when he was up for it, any other time was useless/average

How can anyone put Calleri in this list, Calleri you could tell had some talent just didn't look like a striker, more an attacking midfielder

I never saw him play, I was only 6/7 at the time. I do remember him from my panini sticker book though.

A look at wiki shows 7 goals from 26. Not too shabby!

Ian Dowie was garbage and went on a long run of not scoring until this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpYRpL0TSGU

Shame it was in his own goal.
