Opening Day Fixtures:

Nathan Trott

not in squad

Next Match: Sat 10th August vs Fleetwood (a)

Jordan Hugill

Jordan scored on his debut, playing 81 minutes as QPR won 2-1 at Stoke.

Image

MATCH REPORT:
"Hugill, signed on loan from West Ham last week, steered QPR ahead from close range early on after England goalkeeper Jack Butland's decision to rush out and challenge Bright Osayi-Samuel went awry."
"Huge season ahead for Hugill?
While Stoke's worries over a lack of goals - just 18 in Jones' 22 games as manager - continue, QPR will hope they have found a man who can carry the burden of finding the net for them this season. Hugill has struggled to live up to expectations since West Ham reportedly paid £10m to take him from Preston 18 months ago and has been limited to three substitute appearances for the Hammers. He only scored seven times in 41 games on loan with hometown club Middlesbrough last season but will hope a similar season-long arrangement in the capital will bear fruit. The 27-year-old looked bright throughout his Hoops debut and was in the right place at the right time to put the visitors ahead. Judging from the lively performances of Osayi-Samuel - whose run led to Butland's error - and Eze, there will be no shortage of a supply line for the 6ft striker in west London this season. The trio helped QPR record a first opening-day away win in more than 30 years - 1987 was the last time they won a curtain-raiser on their travels, having drawn six and lost seven of their 13 attempts since."

LIVE TWEETS:

8' THE PERFECT START! Bright Osayi-Samuel beats Jack Butland to cross for Jordan Hugill, who makes no mistake.
81' Final QPR change: Leistner comes on for Hugill

Stoke City 1 QPR 2 as it unfolded: Ratings, reaction and off-the-pitch problems following opening day defeat
GOAL! Stoke 0 QPR 1 - Jordan Hugill
QPR lead.

What a mess. Jack Butland went wide left to try to cut off a raking pass but he’s beaten to the ball by Ebere Eze and when it’s hooked across, it’s an open goal for former Port Vale striker Jordan Hugill.

Jack Butland error of judgement costs Stoke City against QPR
Jack Butland was guilty of some rash goalkeeping as Stoke conceded within eight minutes of their season starting here at the bet365.

It was a body blow to a new-look Stoke side beginning the new season full of such optimism.

Stoke were in trouble from the moment a long diagonal from near half-way sent Ebere Eze scurrying clear down the QPR right.

Butland took it upon himself to scamper from his area to try and intercept, but was second to the ball down by on his left-hand by line.

Eze, to his credit, centred deftly and found new signing Jordan Hugill for a close-range finish despite three retreating Stoke players in and around the former Vale striker.

Tortuous defeat, season ticket holders stuck outside, food hygiene report leaked, streaming service errors - this was a dreadful weekend for Stoke City
Pretty dreadful all round, although if you were one of the many unfortunates in the queue outside the ticket office or kicking the metaphorical online cat you can console yourself that you didn’t have to witness Jack Butland’s rush of blood to the head.

That saw the England keeper inexplicably scampering out to the left wing to try and get to the ball before QPR’s right winger, fail dismally and then watch in horror as the deflected cross fell perfectly for Jordan Hugill to slot home rather than any of the three Stoke defenders surrounding him.

Typical Stoke luck.

All those false starts took the wind out of our sails within eight minutes.

Championship: Stoke City 1 QPR 2
QPR got their Championship season off to a winning start following a 2-1 victory at Stoke.

Mark Warburton's men took control of the game when Jordan Hugill gave them an eighth-minute lead following a howler by Jack Butland.

The early goal allowed them to sit back and soak up pressure before hitting the Potters on the break.

And Rangers wrapped up the points early in the second half following a brilliant solo run and finish by Ebere Eze.

You are the driving force behind this thread. Saw QPR would be a team to follow so thought quoting from the evening standard would be easy. They have next to nothing recent on QPR and don't do match reports on them.

Dons boss Downes on defeat to Rotherham and explains absence of on-loan West Ham keeper
One of the positives taken from the game for Wimbledon was the performance of debutant keeper Nik Tzanev. The youngster produced a couple of eye-catching saves, including one from point-blank range in the opening period.

“I thought he was excellent,” said Downes when discussing Tzanev’s performance.

“A good performance from the boy. He’s been working with us all season; he went out on loan last season to get some games. I’d have liked to have got some more games into him, but he certainly stepped up today and he was excellent for a debut.”

West Ham loanee Nathan Trott had figured in pre-season alongside Tzanev but did not make the matchday 18 with Downes confirming post-match he had a slight injury problem.

“He’s got a little bit of a groin problem. West Ham are looking at him and have taken it out of our hands really so that’s ongoing, we’ll see where we are next week.”

Charlton Athletic re-sign West Ham midfielder on loan

Championship side Charlton Athletic have re-signed West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old scored one goal in 32 appearances for the Addicks last season as Lee Bowyer's side were promoted from League One via the play-offs. Cullen, a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, has featured nine times for the Hammers since making his debut in the Europa League in July 2015.

Charlton re-sign West Ham's Josh Cullen on season long loan

Image
Charlton have re-signed West Ham United's Josh Cullen on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old returns to the club where he spent a successful 2018/19 season, helping Lee Bowyer's men to promotion from League One.

Playing 32 games for the Addicks and scoring one goal in a 2-0 away win at Gillingham, the midfielder established himself as a fan favourite and will wear the number 24 jersey again.

On returning to the club manager Lee Bowyer expressed his delight in the capture of the man who provided the all important assist for Pat Bauer's dramatic last second promotion clinching winner at Wembley in may.

"I didn’t think Josh was a possibility," he told CAFC.

"I’m pleased to have someone with Josh’s ability, we saw how much he improved last year and what he brought to our team.

"We know he will give us 100 per cent every time he trains and plays, he’s a great lad all around.”

Despite admitting at the start of the transfer window that re-signing the Ireland international would be difficult, Head Of Recruitment Steve Gallen revealed it was a deal they were hopeful for,

“I’m so happy about this signing," Gallen said.

"We’ve not let this go all summer. I’ve been chipping away at this every single day to make this happen.

"There have been days and weeks where you think it is definitely not happening but when we found out yesterday there was a slim chance, we were on it in a flash.”

Diangana joins West Brom on season-long loan

West Ham United can confirm that Grady Diangana has joined Championship side West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 21-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough campaign with the Irons last season, scoring twice on his senior debut in an 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Macclesfield Town. Just three days later, Diangana would make his league debut for West Ham, appearing as a substitute in the 3-1 home win against Manchester United. The winger would make 21 appearances in all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini's side and most recently scored in the Irons' 5-3 pre-season victory versus Hertha Berlin.

Diangana will now spend the season with the Baggies, under the tutelage of former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, as the Academy graduate continues his development and looks to help West Brom in the second tier of English football.
