Is there space at The London stadium for a museum?

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

Is there space at The London stadium for a museum?

Post by Crotty32 » Mon Aug 12, 2019 1:16 pm

I was on a away day years back and was speaking to this lad who told me about his grandfather/great grandfather I forget which one,he told me that they played for WHU way back and the family had mementos and medals which although he offered them to the club for display they were not interested.I don't have anything myself but I'm sure others do have decent memorabilia could the club with their fans data bank ask if people have eg shirts, medals, pre war programmes, photographs etc.I for one appreciate these artefacts and could the club on a match day display our history?

Is there space at The London stadium for a museum?

For sure; it could double up as our trophy cabinet.

A mausoleum would be better suited.

As its not our stadium, the answer is no.

The club shop is however something the club do own the building and land for so if for example the cafe downstairs was removed and replaced with some displays and you change out the items on display from time to time, that could be your space.

There's room for another stadium inside the London Stadium...

Sadly, the people who run our club don't give a f*** about our hisory or heritage unless there's a quid in it for them. We had a museum at Upton Park and they sold off lots of our memorablia in the move. They sold things that didn't technically belong to them either.

History began when we moved to Stratford. Lady Brady told us so.

In one of our meetings (I forget which one or when) KB mentioned opening a museum at the stadium, following a request to that effect.

Or looking into the possibility, at least. Perhaps it wasn't cost effective for the reason sanchoz states.

If they allow it, maybe the club can set up something inside the gap!

I thought they sold off the items from the last one at the Boleyn ? gsb don't care about the Boleyn days that has gone. its not our stadium so would they have to take it down and reinstall after the athletics ?
club is a joke sooner they go and we get decent owners in the better. those days are years away though

First I've heard of this. I don't disbelieve you, but have you got any evidence to back it up?

They sold caps that players earned and then gifted to the club.

It wasn't technically the sale of someone else's stuff, but, nevertheless, it was a bit tacky, perhaps?

They could fit it in between the east stand and the pitch.

Didn't we once have a museum and there was some palaver about a really expensive model boat?

Memory might be playing tricks on me.

The old museum was really small, and the new ground has (I think) the biggest footprint of any English stadium, save Wembley. Lots of potential for an arrangement to be made with the operators I would think.

And I liked that boat. Uncle Terry actually negotiated an option on a second one, of HMS Thunderer, but the
outcry over HMS Warrior was probably rather chastening!
