Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
These are the kind of games you ant to be winning if you're going to push for a top 8 place. The win taking us 3rd would be amazing considering our opening day hammering. It is very West Ham though to end up losing 2-0 tonight.
Lets hope we are fast out the blocks and get an early goal.

team picks itself same as Norwich, you don't change a winning team.

subs Roberto Johnson Balbuena wilshere fornals Snodgrass ajeti maybe zaba in for Johnson ?
start well, stay fully committed and we should be ok.

We all know the term "Spursy". Tonight, we're going to cement the term "West Hammy"
"West Hammy" - being consistently beaten, and in many cases trounced, by a supposedly inferior team, whenever presented with the opportunity to achieve a position of higher stature.

"West Hammy" adj. - consistenly blowing the opportunity to better oneself; to be left swimming in perpetual mediocrity.

The best teams turn up nearly every single game. We need to try and find that consistency.

Is it just me, or do we usually not do so well against the newly promoted teams?
Saying that, we beat Norwich rather more comfortably than the 2-0 scoreline suggests, so it’s an away win for me Simon.

Enjoy the game!

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
I have absolutely no idea which way this will go. I think F365 nailed it the other week:
"They’re a unique club in the Premier League. They, more than any other, are a side who could perform in any way at all and still surprise nobody. They can be really good, really bad or really average during any month of any given season and, regardless of context, that would be entirely expected. That’s the personality created by the Gold-Sullivan era: that West Ham are the product of mild chaos, the footballing equivalent of throwing paint at the wall every twelve months and hoping that a Jackson Pollock appears."

Still think we're looking a score draw in the eye here.

That is absolutely spot on. Couldn't describe us any better.wildkard wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 3:04 pm I have absolutely no idea which way this will go. I think F365 nailed it the other week:

I think we will lose 2-1 but this feels a key game for the club. I imagine he will pick an unchanged team (I would personally drop Yarmolenko to the bench for . I still don’t know where we are as a team...after Brighton I thought bottom 6 then Norwich top 6!
We need to make this a war and take the game from minute 1 to them. The atmosphere will be rocking

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
March 1989: I was in my second year of study at Aston University, my parents were visiting for a few days and West Ham came to town so my Dad and I went along. The self-styled Guvnor scored the only goal, and it is my favourite ever goal that I have seen in the flesh, mainly because we were positioned perfectly behind the goal to see the swerve of the ball as it nestled into the top corner.
Haller to do the same tonight - 1-0.

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread
we started extremely conservatively against norwich, let them have a fair bit of the ball and concentrated on keeping the hatches battened. out of character in its pragmatism from pellers but an effective way of managing our slow starts.
wonder if we'll do similar tonight?
