I think the real hard men have been edged out of the game. We wont see the likes of Bonds again.

The rule of the game have luckily been amended to protect attack, flair players.

Defending players still need to be hard. Ramos, for all his theatrics, doesn't lack steel. Same with Chiellini.

Kicking and fouling opponents aren't enough to succeed these days though. Rakitic, Fernadinho, Fabinho, Pjanic, they'll kick you, and offer something more as well.

I think Declan can have all the steel we need, to be playing how he has at 19/20 says it all really.

Then he's got the Irish temperament we've not really seen yet but is bound to rear it's head at some point.

Stevie Lomas was someone who I absolutely loved for this category!

Nobes gets the crowd going when it needs to. He’s guaranteed to nail a Tottenham player twice a year. Snodders comes across a lad who’d have a go.

Was saying a couple of weeks ago how much I'd love to be able to drop Dicks into this side...
We've certainly had our fair share of them over the years

Did we ever have Lomas, Moncur, Mad Dog Allen, Dicks and possibly Repka all on the pitch at the same time?

EDIT: not Repka and Lomas with Allen - but Hutchison in the same squad as Allen, Moncur and Dicks.

I would stick Noble in that bracket. Hard as nails and first on the scene if there's any trouble....
You can take the boy out of Custom 'ouse and all that.

Although Billy Bonds will forever remain as my favourite ever West Ham player there's something about a well-timed tackle I particularly enjoy , a player who can read the game - Bobby Moore was the ultimate player in regards to that -
Alex Song was superb for us , he could just ' take ' the ball off an opponent - but as great as he was N'Golo Kante is the best at his job and I wish we'd gone for him instead , he combines work-rate with great timing , why Chelsea are persevering with that new role is beyond me .

I'd rather they were just 'good'.

What does hardness get you when someone else is just notably and continually better than you? Being hard is about what you can take anyway, not how much you can dish out and how loud your bark is.

'Hardest' player in the Prem is De Bruyne. Any tactic you've got, he'll surmount, whether that's trying to man mark him, scheme for him tactically or level him.
