Would you sell Declan Rice for £90m?

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

IronZ, you're pretty much on the money. The football world is divided into two; teams who sell top talent and teams who buy it. Sadly, for the foreseeable future we're in the first category.

I want to say no, but Manuel & Mario bought Fab, The General, Anderson and Haller for less than that, with enough left over to make Brady redundant.

It would also amuse me that the kid we picked up from Chelsea (in the same year they sold De Bruyne), we sold on for shed loads.

tbf the only clubs in the world who don't sell their very best players are Barcelona, Real Madrid, and at the moment, Man City

On a personal note, I've never been able to warm to Rice like I have with other youth players. To me, he is the epitome of a young, modern player - opportunist attitude emphasised by the Ireland saga, throws about little hints in interviews about bigger clubs and his allegiance to West Ham all seems a bit forced.
On a footballing perspective,m I feel he is over rated by West ham fans. He is a good West Ham player, but that is all.
He lacks the ability on the ball to be a top midfielder and a yard of pace to be a top centre half.
This shouldn't take away the fact that he is a very important player for West ham and makes us a better team.
I know that that is not a very popular opinion, but that's kind of how I feel as well.
It really doesn't sit well with me the way he changed allegiance from Ireland to England with such apparent ease.

I wouldn't sell him for any price in January. We should have plenty of money still in the transfer kitty for that window with the outs that weren't replaced like Obiang plus of course all the sale proceeds and saved wages on Hernandez.............

If we got a £90m offer in the summer, we'd have to see. If the player made it clear he wanted to move then I don't think we'd have a choice but if he was not busting a gut to leave then no, we are a football team and that's what people pay to see, not a set of accounts.

BTW, I don't agree with the assessment of Rice's ability as a player as 21212 and others do but I do agree that Rice is no Mark Noble in the loyalty stakes. He'll go as soon as it suits him.

tbf it is impossible to say whether Mark Noble would have stayed if he was in the England side at 20, and was wanted by pretty much every big team in England [and maybe further afield]

We will never know of course

Very valid point Crouchy. And as we all know there's very little loyalty in football these days (probably never was much in reality).

His tackling has set up at least two of our goals. Looks indispensable to this emgland setup, a lynch pin.

I appreciate his job is to snuff out danger and rotate the ball but I'm struggling to see why the absolute top CL sides would not be able to buy better for less than £90m.

I will probably get stick for this but imho I don't think he has been as good this season so far as he was last season Still very young of course but his forward passing certainly needs improvement.

You keep your best players as long as you can - end of as far as I’m concerned. I’m staggered so many would take the money but it must be music to the ears of the owners. West Ham can never again amount to anything if such attitudes continue/ prevail.

He seemed to do a lot of pointing and held his hand up in the air an awful lot in the first half and not so much in the second and I think that’s when England struggled. He needs to play with one hand held aloft continuously if England want to progress. I think Rocky probably deserves a mention for instilling this skill in Rice.

Declan right now is not worth 90m. He maybe one day, maybe not. The problem is this is west ham, pellers will want his envelope, sullivan will want a yacht and we will replace him with a Rigobert Song, and get a bonus Titi Camara just to grind in the pain of it all. The only joy well get for the next 5 years is making up songs about the curly haired bloke we spent the rest of the money on.
so a no from me (sorry Christian)

It would be difficult to turn down, would consider it if it would be reinvested in the team.

90 million could fund a replacement, another CM and a right back

We might become better
