Would you sell Declan Rice for £90m?

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

Doesn't really matter what we as fans think or want, if an offer came in for that much the 3 amigo's wouldnt even draw breath before calling him a cab.

As a fan I want us to keep our best players and push on, they however are not fans, are they...

He's starting in England's midfield at the age of 19/20.

Newspapers linking him with £90mil moves away.

It's not just us who seem to rate him....

I look back at the similar discussion around Rio Ferdinand.

Twitchy spunked the money on poor replacements. We were relegated and lost more of our young players.

I would look to build a side around a spine of Fabianski, Diop, Rice, Lanzini, Haller.

All the others could go if the price was right.

Yes, the question (in the title) says "would you sell Declan Rice for £90m?" If no one is going to offer £90m then we can't sell him for that can we?
So I answered the question, and then gave an opinion?

Would I sell is a simple question to a complex issue as is a “yes” or “ no” answer, especially when linked with “your best players”. Resisting the sales of Payet and Arnie on that basis worked so well.

Certainly we should not be touting him around or encouraging offers, we can control that. If he has a great Euro and someone like Man Utd turn his head then there is little real choice actually.

On a personal note, I've never been able to warm to Rice like I have with other youth players. To me, he is the epitome of a young, modern player - opportunist attitude emphasised by the Ireland saga, throws about little hints in interviews about bigger clubs and his allegiance to West Ham all seems a bit forced.
On a footballing perspective,m I feel he is over rated by West ham fans. He is a good West Ham player, but that is all.
He lacks the ability on the ball to be a top midfielder and a yard of pace to be a top centre half.
This shouldn't take away the fact that he is a very important player for West ham and makes us a better team.

Exactly.

You are looking at a scenario where we sell one of our best players (and how often do we players in starting line ups for England games anyway?) for funds which COULD get us two very good players. But as you say, with the Rio situation it shows there are a lot of ifs and buts in that transfer approach.

Keep him.

Do fans of other clubs, rate Rice?

The ones I've spoken to, think he's a good player, nothing more, nothing less.

Are we over rating him, somewhat?
The fans I know and speak regularly about football with reckon he's one of our best performers, but think he shows potential, more than raving that he is the real deal or anything.

In the same vein, whilst I wouldn't say that we overrate the kid, have we actually watched him take a game by the scruff of the neck and really boss it? That may come, of course, but, well let's put it this way, £90M in the board's mouthpiece paper? He's not seriously worth nearly £100M, not even in this day and age. That's the kind of fee that double title winner Kante would command.

I don’t think DS /DG would pull the rug from underneath MP at this stage of his contract , and would leave the decision for MP to make. That decision no doubt would have a great deal to do with what the player wants. For 90 mil losing dec and having MP in charge of the funds doesn’t seem so bad.

No idea what you're talking about. I gave an opinion on a West Ham player.
Your replies to me are never football related as you seem to turn almost psychotic to any poster that has a negative view about anything West ham.
I will ignore your posts going forward as you never offer a football related counter argument.

I think he has the ability to go on and captain Man United in a few years time. He'll be here for 2 seasons maximum imo.

Were we to have the dildo brothers as owners in two or three years time than I could see him leaving. However I have the distinct feeling (based on whispers on here and knowing the fairly obvious DS profit motive) that when the club sale tax is lifted in a year and a half from now we will have a sale to that American consortium.

Increase in wages, CL quality players brought in, renewed investment in training facilities/OS, and European qualification will keep him with us unless perhaps Real Madrid come calling, but I think it's clear Declan loves us and if we progress so will he. I hope he never leaves.

And all based on idle speculation by Noel Whelan, whose actual comments (to Football Insider) were as follows:
“West Ham have got a really special player on their hands. They will struggled to hold on to him, because the big clubs will be hot on his trail.

“I think Declan Rice could be the next player who goes for a Premier League record fee. We have just seen Harry Maguire go for £80million and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rice goes for more than that, above £90million, even.

“He’s young, English, hugely talented and is such a long way from his peak. You look at a team like Man United, who need a midfield anchorman and you can see it happening.

“They don’t mind paying over the odds for a player, as we saw in the summer. I could see them looking to get Rice in January.”

UTJ - I am in no doubt that it's pure speculation, I was merely making the point that clearly he is quite highly thought of even outside of KUMB/West Ham.
