Would you sell Declan Rice for £90m?

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

Why quote something you haven't read then?
I picked the first post I saw that mentioned the purported £90m sale. So I read that bit...

Chelsea will be the next club he plays for.

No he won't. I was with one of Declan's close relatives in L.A. a short while back, pair of us Face timed with Declan.
He loves it at West Ham. If he does one day move on it would be to one of the European super clubs and certainly not Chelsea.
I'm sure if he continues to progress that will happen one day, and which player wouldn't be interested if a Barca or RM came knocking on the door.
In the meantime, let's be glad he is a Hammer.

On a personal note, I've never been able to warm to Rice like I have with other youth players. To me, he is the epitome of a young, modern player - opportunist attitude emphasised by the Ireland saga, throws about little hints in interviews about bigger clubs and his allegiance to West Ham all seems a bit forced.
On a footballing perspective,m I feel he is over rated by West ham fans. He is a good West Ham player, but that is all.
He lacks the ability on the ball to be a top midfielder and a yard of pace to be a top centre half.
This shouldn't take away the fact that he is a very important player for West ham and makes us a better team.
Haha got bored of hammerschat then numbers?

It is not simply a binary Yes/ No

If Rice wants to stay and play for a team that for the next three seasons have no more than an outside chance of top 6 and/ or winning a domestic cup, and the owners have funds to enable us to purchase better players to help us progress without selling him, then great, I would advocate keeping him

However, if Rice has a desire to move on to the next stage of his career [which if he is ambitious he will want to soon] and/or the owners don't have/ aren't prepared to provide the funds we need to progress as team with him, then that would probably be a rationale for selling him

Not much point in keeping him if we are going to hover around 7-9th, and I doubt we could match what he is likely expecting to achieve unless we suddenly became a regular Champions League team, which is extremely unlikely to happen any time soon with or without Rice

I rate him highly, we are lucky to have him, I just wondered if we were guilty as a fan base, of overrating him, I'm in no way having a dig at Rice, was just interested to hear people's views.

Gareth continues to pick Jesse Lingard remember..
Don't think so, look at how highly we rated Carrick. What was he, 3.75M?

So many reasons why I don't want us to sell Rice beyond simple economics:

1) Rapidly diminishing homegrown quota and could end up with a tiny squad unless we invest in homegrown players
2) He came through the Academy
3) He represents a West Ham I know and love, and contributes to our dwindling identity (thanks to stadium move etc)
4) Selling him would create a bad vibe and impression with the rest of our star players. Selling culture = bad
5) Continuity is important. Don't like a fast turnover of your best players.

I wouldn't mind betting, that his future departure might coincide with the dildos selling the club, pocket the Rice cash, make a tidy profit on the club, and Sullivan can ride his Shetland pony into the sunset, whilst Gold gets lost in a cupboard at the Olympic Stadium.

Evening all, first time poster after years of reading....thought it's about time I joined!

In an ideal world it would be great if we could build something and keep our best players. Sadly it i's never going to happen under the current owners. Feel we are not far off from becoming a very good side...

Was speaking to one of the players last season and he was raving about him. Says it's only a matter of time before the big boys come in...let's just hope we get a massive fee and reinvest when it happens.
