The fact that Oxford United wanted to win a game more than West Ham United is very telling : the leadership and direction at our club is just wrong.
Are you at all surprised Mr Palermo?

What the xxxx!

I messed up the time difference for when the match was on and just saw the result. To say I didn't believe it would be an understatement.

Well, I've read the reports and watched the highlights, but what on Earth happened? That starting lineup should have been more than competent - most of them are/will be regulars in the Premier League.

I could look at each of Oxford's goals and make an excuse (why did Oxford get a free kick in the first place for the clash of heads? Second goal was surely offside, third was good capitalising on Masuaku's slip etc) but Oxford didn't score four from pure luck. And how did we create so little?

Even though I've supported West Ham through four decades I'm stilled stunned that that team lost 4-0 to a mid-table League One side.

And to think we could have been laughing at Spurs today too :x

After beating Newport, I thought that just maybe we would have a go this year. Last night has made me believe that I will never see us win a trophy of any note again. What point is there trying to finish 6th or 7th, when we know that come the qualifying for the Europa league starts again, it will be the same old story.

I love pellers but the fault lies with him. Those squad players are squad for a reason. He put a team out that should have beaten Oxford not a team that will.

sorry but we could have put the entire first team out and we would have still lost

its the mentally of the players

look at pre season how ropey we looked at the back.. its players not giving it 100% because its not the important games to them

by fit players that is many peoples first choice defence....

midfield we gave a youngster a chance and same up top

the rest had more than enough

just beaten by a team who wanted it more

thats the point of the cup

We played bad, yes.

Everytiung else is superficial, only half truth and trivial.

We have to learn someday to be NEUTRAL.

A loss is a loss. Thats it. No even a bit of word more than this.

(Why ffsk humans always coloured any thing with their emotions, transforming it far more than a thing really is! Passion can tranform things, but also to the bad.)

Everything else is invention or exageration.

Is it really Pellegrini's fault? Do you honestly think that starting 11 wasn't good enough to beat Oxford? If you do, then surely this comes down to effort of the players? Everyone's quick to praise him when we beat Man Utd when the players look like they're up for it, so surely there's evidence that he manages to motivate his players to do well.

For players to be that bad can only be down to the message coming down from the top, be it the manager or the owners.

I would like to hope our board would sit down the manager and tell him this club has been far too long without a trophy, and he should target both cups.

Maybe that never happened, or maybe Pellers didn't listen.

Not good enough.

I think it's systemic that we constantly lose to lower opposition in both cups and that doesn't come from the manager, it comes from higher up. The dildo bros and their porn queen only see the EPL as their gravy train so FA or EL cups can go **** themselves. As some other poster pointed out it's been like that since the Lyall years but for different reasons.

I think the main issue is that our starting XI, and even the subs didn’t want it any where near as much as our opponents. On top of that, a few of ours seem to have past their sell by date. Zabaleta, Snodgrass, and Sanchez careers are basically over at the top or even a decent level. To make matters worse, In large part, the players we started, with the exception of The back 4 , have barely played 10 minutes together... and we didn’t have a single leader on the pitch, in spite of Balbuena, Zabaleta, Snodgrass, Wilshere and Diop all having worn the captain’s armband at some point in their careers. The squad is small enough to begin with and with Antonio, Reid, Lanzini, Silva and Johnson all injured, Cardoso just 18 adjusting to a new country and Fredericks carrying a knock we really are “down to the bare bones”.
We will need major additions in January or in the summer, and it is the character, more than the quality of the incomings that will be important.
We already need a striker to replace Chicharito, we will need to ( in fact we desperately already need to ) replace Sanchez. I assume Johnson will be the replacement for Zabaleta, but we still need fullback depth, and it seems inevitable that we will need to replace Reid who is coming up on 18 months without playing a competitive match, and only a handful in 3 years.
If we assume Holland and Diangana come through to replace Snodgrass, the most glaring need is up front, followed by central midfield. I feel sorry for Ajeti who hasn’t had a lick of service and must be wondering what the hell is going on with his teammates, and to a lesser extent Fornals.
It’s too bad we didn’t brink Mandzukic in before the window closed as he would have won that match by himself... and literally kicked the arses of his disinterested underperforming teammates

Keeper's dont need a rest.

To unnecessarily play a reserve behind an experimental team in such an important game is bad management,

Sure, they'll be clamouring for a game...but **** 'em they' they're not up to it.
It's not about resting the keeper, it's about giving his cover some game time, so if Fab is injured, then the reserve isn't coming into the team totally cold.

And like others have said, the vast majority of the problems were the outfield players anyway

after a major overhaul in the past couple of windows yet more is needed with this squad.

players such as Roberto zabaleta sanchez Snodgrass are no longer good enough and the 3 out of contract will be leaving. Roberto wont and I only hope that trot comes back and is a decent back up to fab. could he be any worse than Roberto ?
not sure what we will do with Roberto and martin , they were frees for a reason; they are very poor.
reid is finished and we will need another CB who is ready now. cardosa is only 18 and will need a few years.

so we need a CB, CM and CF urgently.
depends on how fredericks and Johnson do but I think that side is ok. The left back situation is a worry with Arthur and cresswell inconsistent at best. maybe a new LB coming in and cresswell being solf for 5m if we are lucky.
diagana will return to the squad after what looks like a very good loan.
Holland will hopefully get some more game time and come good
cullen will be released as not good enough
hughill if he continues his goalscoring may earn a reprieve at the club or be sold for near 10m.

lots to be done and hopefully sully spends big again as there is not much to sell and those we do get rid of wont command much in the way of fees.

The Roberto comment is a touch much. Would be close to laughable.

Zabaleta is done at the end of the year.

Snodgrass is around 5th choice winger, not effective there in attacking performances as much, but he is an effective central midfielder, good defensive option and good character.

The worry for me from this game is the back 4

Zabaleta - Balbuena - Diop - Masuaku

Last year this was frequently our back 4. They looked like they'd never even had a training session together, let alone a season.
