Fabianski's injury

Post by Up the Junction » Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:12 pm

Early days yet, no doubt a scan to follow, but the signs are positive.

Good if he only misses one game.

Great to see Steve Bacon still on twitter. I don't go very often now but remember him when I was a young un at The Boleyn.

My only hope that he can be back for next week is last week with fredericks pulling up against man utd. It looked like he would be out for a few weeks but was back today let's hope and pray for a similar outcome.

It's a little unnerving how much our success depends on him. Pellegrini's way of playing, on a West Ham budget, would be doomed to failure with a shakier man between the sticks.

Even if Pellegrini wants to rotate the outfield for the FA Cup, Fabianski should be playing those games.

I know it’s not likely and the game has changed now as the keeper needs to virtually play as a sweeper what with the kicking aspect... but I’d suggest letting someone else take his goal kicks but then again that would allow the opposition to totally push up... forget that - get well soon fabianski

we shouldn't risk him for palace if there is any doubt. let him be 100% for everton not 80% for palace. lets get behind Roberto and pray he does well.

another position we need to look at in the summer. Is trot good enough to be our number 2 ? If not we need to buy a decent reserve GK as martin and Roberto are not good enough.

One Stevie Bacon, there's only one Stevie Bacon. Seem to remember Steve wrote a book. Think he lost a lot of weight and glad to see he's still going!

Good opportunity for Roberto to show what he's made of.

He'll do us proud I reckon .

Oh jesus christ! Just as we started looking decent, we lose such a consistent keeper and our backup is the equivalent of a traffic cone, great!

Massive blow. There is no replacing Fabianski. Roberto will be just fine though. Everyone has focused on his poor game on Wednesday (a game where everyone was poor) and seem to forget the previous round in the cup where he made numerous saves to keep a clean sheet. He also did fine on Saturday other than his kicking. Time to get behind him.

Let's hope not, not least of all for his sake.
Roberto steps up, Martin gets on the bench, Pellers clearly thought they were up to it so wish them well and on we go.

Also a note on Roberto's kicking is that it was super windy - hes probably not as used to the wind coming from Spain.

I think he will be OK, probably a little worse than Adrian but not all doom & gloom. However, I foresee the fans booing him, making him nervous, jumping on every mistake and basically make the situation as bad as they expect it to be.

He was absolutely dire pre-season too, I'm not holding out much hope

Well, that's a bugger if true. He's been Mr. Reliable for us. Fingers crossed the first news is true rather than Steinberg's, but I think Jacob is normally pretty accurate?

I think there are promising signs in Roberto, and it wasn't that long ago he was keeping Juventus out in the Champions League for Olympiacos. Failing that, David Martin should be a ready to go option who's used to the English game - I'm honestly surprised we haven't used him more as the second choice.
