Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham United: Match Thread
Also, let’s put this great start to the season myth to bed. As the Benchmark thread shows, we’ve started this season worse than we did in corresponding fixtures last year. We got hammered by a League One club in the Coca Cola Cup.
When the tricky fixtures start to bite we’re gonna be looking over our shoulder.

Investment has still been shoddy at best. With all the outgoings this year the net spend was bottom half/relegation battle level at best. One window of investment having spent as close to nothing as possible since rocking up at the toilet bowl doesn't fix anything. We needed the same level this summer and we had less than a fifth of the net spend.hammer1975 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:26 pm Ex tweeted at the time that the club didn’t think the other midfield players we were negotiating for were ‘value’ at the prices clubs were asking. Not saying Pellegrini is getting the best out of players or the squad at the moment...I don’t buy into the high expectations solely on the manager given the resources afforded to him though. Not with our track record of investment in defensive and physical players anyway.
Which isn't to shield Pellers from our inability to be arsed about playing a game of football. He spoke last year about us not having the right attitude in games we "should" win. Well the last 2 Prem games and that league cup match were all in that category if we want to push on and we haven't shown up except for the first half against palace.
But you can't say he's had loads to spend, he had the money in first window to patch a relegation bound team if nothing was done followed by the old deep pockets short arms routine.

I guess come January we will have a clear picture in just how much progress we have made in the last year and a half under the gafferJames P wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:30 pm Also, let’s put this great start to the season myth to bed. Not necessarily the 2-0 defeat but the manner of the defeat.Happyhammer52 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 2:50 pm It took a 2-0 defeat today to realise that?
What you have said has been the case for quite some time now.
Like I said for me after 52 years the optimism finally died.

Bournemouth spent more? Hell, look at the job Roy is doing at Crystal Palace!

One of the issues is that out so called star players are all overrated to an extent, and I include Rice in that
Rice
Haller
Anderson
Lanzini
Diop
These are supposedly our big players. The ones worth top dollar.
I would say only Diop is worth his salt at the moment. The others are vastly overrated IMHO
Our best player for the season has been Ogbonna
Rice
Haller
Anderson
Lanzini

its all about the midfield , Haller needs service , hes had none today , we had nothing in midfield , poor picks from the manager , I really wonder what Fornals does in training , he must look like Iniesta against our other players , the other thing we looked 2nd best from the 2nd minute , how is that allowed to happen ?

Good news:
Aside from their first goal, Roberto proved himself as a great deputy for Fab.
Bad news:
I don't know where to begin.

A complete lack of intensity, desire, etc. concerns me. If you are not up for it and at it you are going to give poor performances. The amount of sloppy passing, lost 50/50 tackles etc. during todays game is evidence of that and its becoming a habit. This is down to the Manager, to make sure his team are fired up and ready to compete for everything. Not seen it this year.

I already am mate, if Southampton who are currently in 18th place win today, they will be 2 points behind us A few games ago I mentioned we had a nice run of fixtures coming up where they all looked winnable on paper. These should have been the games that cemented our position in the top 8, instead the confidence is being knocked out of the team with every passing fixture. Worrying times!

I am surprised to see the pass Haller seems to be getting so far.
Of course he is a new signing and will hopefully come good but I think he has been a bit of a disappointment so far
He doesn't seem to dominate defences much and his movement is poor.
He needs to do more as the lone front man IMHO

Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham United: Match Thread
I think Rice has been poor a lot this season. Today, he was not our worst player, but only because Fornals and Lanzini were pub league standard. Rice had some blame on the first goal and a lot on the second, and bar a half hour either side of half to he was horrible in possession. Wilshere did nothing when he came on. We can’t play Lanzini and Fornals in the same team... and on current form we shouldn’t play either. We need Haller, Noble, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Ogbonna, Fredericks, Diop, Masuaku or Creswell, and Rice after he’s had a good kick up the arse starting every week. For now we’re stuck with Roberto, but I’d recall Diangana and Cullen and play them or dome of the Under 23s ahead of the rest of our midfield
Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham United: Match Thread
I can see what he's saying but feel he expresses himself poorly. They were playing like they were fighting for their lives today. The attitude of their team compared to ours was entirely different.Up the Junction wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:41 pm Pellegrini's post-match interview, where he makes the 'energy' claim, in full:

It's weird how little we provide Haller. He must wonder what's going on. I don't think we need to play Lanzini/Fornals and Anderson together but I'm not sure who you bring in as playing Wilshire, Rice and Noble together doesn't seem like a good idea either.chigwells finest wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:43 pm its all about the midfield , Haller needs service , hes had none today , we had nothing in midfield , poor picks from the manager , I really wonder what Fornals does in training , he must look like Iniesta against our other players , the other thing we looked 2nd best from the 2nd minute , how is that allowed to happen ?

Yet another half-arsed or indeed can't-be-arsed performance. When is this going to stop?
It's making me doubt my allegiance to the club - not as a supporter as that is a given - but most certainly as a Season Ticket Holder. I'm sorry but I have to travel for 3 hrs to get to every home game and then it's another 3 hrs to get home. But if the team cannot be bothered why the hell should I?

Was just about to say the same, Crouchy. He was rubbish today.Crouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:47 pmI am surprised to see the pass Haller seems to be getting so far.
One moment there in the second half where he waited for the ball to come to him and the lad just nipped in and took it off his toes.
I'm not claiming the rest were much better (honourable mentions perhaps to our 'keeper who may have silenced a few critics), but this rose-coloured view of some players and not others isn't particularly helpful.

To think people thought we would be finishing in top 6 even top 4 this season
We seriously need to sort ourselves out, Anderson, Lanzini, Fornals and many other under performing including Pellegrini.
