There’s nowhere near enough money in transfer betting markets on Sky for them to do anything to play with that. They make far more from advertising on Sky Sports News than they do transfer betting on SkyBet. I doubt the two even talk. They’re just sensationalist, like most media outlets.

Revised offer in for Gedson (Sky sports)

I wouldn’t sell Diop. I do get the frustration re: his heading though. Sometimes he looks afraid of the ball, but I’ve seen him be utterly dominant on other occasions. It’s a strange one... :eh:
I would not sell him either ,He is only 22 and still learning his trade and trying to get used to the Prem.

Once we get a settled team and move up the table he will blossom into one of the best in the league.

By the time he is 25 his price will have doubled and we will be really stupid to sell him for 40 million

Looking at this thread is very much like looking at the way the club is being run,imo- Many seem to dismiss players as not being good enough in favour of Youtube adverts of players that only emphasis the good bits of their play ! For instance, looking at the formations favoured by the previous three managers, we would have been better served by a "Chris Woods" or a "Murray" up front on their tod than the twenty plus "superstars"that are not quite right that Sulli has brought in.
This Joe Allen debate over the last week is exactly what I'm talking about - He is exactly the type of player we need - he fights for everything, he does not hide and he has made it as a Premier League player through sheer hard work and determination, not through being a naturally gifted footballer! He would automatically make Mark Noble a better player, through sharing his workload and even giving Nobes the freedom when playing together. He would improve/share the weight on Rice's shoulders in CM.Every team needs a scattering of players like Allen and,I daresay, if you looked at his youtube advert rather than of players you had never seen, you would think wow!!
We have all been impressed with Snodgrass attitude and application in a struggling team this season - imagine a similar player, but in a position we desperately need filled.
Totally agree with this... Let's not get a player in for the next step as we are not ready for that yet.... let's get a player in with fight that knows what he's doing and will improve the players around him... We are looking for safety not a top 6 finish!

It was noted in one of the posts earlier about how much better Rice has been under Moyes because of the way he's set up players around him and Joe Allen will only add to this platform.

Completely agree (and it's not too often I agree with your posts  )

That's not to say we shouldn't also take a risk on youth with a lot of potential too - but balance is needed. A Snodgrass is just as important to the side as an Anderson.

In an ideal world, we'd end up with Allen plus one other younger player (Berge or Fernandes). That would really revitalise our midfield. I am surprised though that we haven't shown more interest in the Championship for this position. There can't be a shortage of younger combative midfielders in there to take a punt on. I'll sure our lower league expert Peaches could give a nice big list of the top of his head.

Unfortunately, the only bids I see happening would be for players we don't want to sell.

Joe Allen, nearly 30, what is the bloody point ?

And Stoke wanting a huge chunk for him as well, an absolute joke.

It's as if Sullivan couldn't see us getting out gunned in midfield week after week and needed Moyes to come in and tell him .

Who have we been looking at for the past 12 months, who was top of the scouts pile ?

A joke of a club under this blokes owenership, nothing more than a rich mans toy.

Baffled how this narrative of "were not ready" is gaining so much traction, not ready for some long overdue energy injected into one of the oldest slowest midfields in the league?
beggars belief that so many forget the huge amount of times we simply get overun centrally.
We are an established premiership team who quite often find ourselves in a hole when we come up against more physical energetic opposition.
We are 16th and in a lot of trouble, if we don't upgrade now we'll find ourselves in a lower division having to start again with a even older squad.
How on earth can a group consisting of sanchez, noble, snodgrass, yarmalenko, wilshere, allen
Be considered fit for purpose in any league let alone the premiership.
Athleticism and dynamism is urgently needed centrally and has been for years now.

What is so frustrating is that if we had kept obiang, byram, diangana and adrian our squad would be in so much better shape. Then we could look to upgrade one or to positions instead of trying to plug gaping holes in the squad with 4 or 5 signings.
It would also be 3 over the 25 man limit

I don't think we have scouts. Just some of Sullivan's agent mates putting players forward.

If Kristof is right (and I absolutely would bet my life he is) that Berge is available for £18m, we should buy him. It’s so much cheaper to buy him for £18m than Joe Allen at £7m.

And that includes if we go for Fernandes. We have to have players in place for the day Rice gets targeted, and these three could make the best central midfield of a generation (for us).

On the economics, one of Rice, Berge and Fernandes will end up going for big money. I’d bank we’d profit on both the new boys in the long run. And if we don’t, they aren’t (Berge in particular) gonna sink in value.

We’d either have a midfield for 5 years sewn up or a lot of money to replace them (and put into the squad).

You buy Joe Allen instead, you pay at least as much again in a few years and make no money. Hell, if Dave doesn’t wanna spend money he won’t make back after a sale, put a loan in and take that money back when you sell.

Would be a move akin to something Leicester would do - smart and sensible.

Allen and Berge are not comparable in any way, one is twice as big as the other for starters, completely different players who both happen to play in the middle of the park. If they really are interersted in the 3 CMs mentioned, there is no plan or thought, no policy in transfers. But we knew that

""West Ham bid for Fernandes" "Chelsea interested in Fernandes" "Chelsea want Diop"

"Sell us Diop and we'll drop our 'interest' in Fernandes  "

Surely that sort of thing doesn't go on, does it?

Diop is only a year older than Diangana – he's basically a youth player. Unlike some other positions, there are so few CBs that play their best football at that age.

He already generally plays to a pretty good level, and occasionally an excellent level – when figures of £70-80m were being touted in the summer it might have been worth considering it since that's an amount that can structurally change a squad, but for £40m? Once you've secured the replacement, is the amount left over worth doing it for? Probably not.

Let me put it this way. That will probably be the source of the fee to buy Fernandez

We should be getting the very best years out of our young players. If we sell then we should be selling at the optimal time just before their value starts to decline, maybe when they're 27 or 28 years old.
