If the Lanzini sale rumours are true, this makes a refreshing change in our transfer strategy to sell an under-performing player to fund an arrival, in preference to keeping him, no matter how useless and run his contract down to the bitter end.
Utter stupidity = selling an asset when its value is at its lowest
He is literally 6 months off of a severe knee injury - young enough to get his form back
Slavia Prague and especially Soucek is known to cover most kilometers of all CL teams this year. Here is what Wenger said after Barca game, three months ago:

Who says it's at it's lowest? His value now is better than it will be if he has another bad 6 months for example. Lanzini's value right now takes into account his previous talent, his injuries, and some hope that he'll return to some or all of his previous form. The longer he goes without regaining form the more weight is given to current performance and less to pre-injury form.
Also he is 18 months from his knee injury (and has had 2 other injuries since).
However, beyond that. If you need money, you sell the things you need least, even if it means getting less than you might hypothetically get at a later date.

That is true. Personally, I would've looked to sell him last year, he has never been the same after that cruciate ligament injury in the lead up to the last World Cup and if we really wanted to fully capiltalise on an asset, we should've sold him just before sustained it. That is when he was at his peak
Super excited about the Soucek signing. Lots of energy, solid defensively and a goal scoring threat. While not explosive, it seems like he does well in space and makes his presence known. A lot like Kouyate.
There are no pacey, box to box midfielders that are also technically and defensively sound to be had. They are either too expensive or never going to come here.
Soucek is a safe option that covers most of our needs, with the potential to be a very good option for years to come. Not bad considering the timing and our position in the league. These are the types of deals teams like Leicester and Southampton have hit on for years.

Who would actually want Lanzini though? He has been rubbish since the start of El Pell's reign.
For the right price, I would guess plenty of clubs. He's still only 26, and in a less physical league he might succeed. He's lost confidence and a bit of burst, but he's still clever. Put him in one of the leagues where he doesn't have to run as much or worry about hard tackles and he might blossom again.

West Ham have made a loan offer with a €40m option to buy for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.
The Italian side are said to be "considering" the offer. (via @TuttoMercatoWeb)
No idea who he is ... loan not a surprise
He's a feisty little fella. Captained Uruguay's U-21's. Not afraid to tackle. But he's not an imposing figure, and I can easily see him getting overrun in this league.
Had been linked with Newcastle over the summer. Don't think England would be his preferred destination.
Given the unbalanced state of the team and the urgency to address that in a relegation fight, it is less about optimising Lanzini's (or any other player) sale value and more about who you can sell without weakening the squad and then re-investing it to balance the squad. In this respect, the possible sale of Lanzini is a no brainer. He is badly off-form, completely devoid of confidence, occupies a position and function in the squad that we are overstocked in, and who, based on current form is a liability.
He might recover his form next year. Or he might never do that. But that is all moot when the immediacy of rebalancing the squad and avoiding relegation carries a financial consequence far outweighing any potential marginal gain in value he might attain in the future.
Bear with me - but in baseball, its super common for guys to be bad/mediocre for a team and when they get a change of scenery, they come good again.
Whether or not Lanzini leaves and becomes a top player again is immaterial to us. I don't see him regaining his confidence and form at West Ham, so its in the best interest for both parties to part ways.
We also can't afford to give him minutes and leave money on the table when we are in a relegation battle. If the club thinks its time to sell him, then I'm 100% okay with it.

Straight onto the training pitch please Mr Soucek, you can sign the paperwork there inbetween shuttle runs with Declan!
2 hours of bants with Jack and the drying machines, first.
Dont look like were spending any cash in this window, seems were limited to loans-to-buy in the summer. So surely loaning Lanzini out for six months would be a better idea than selling him whilst he's out of form and a less attractive signing. Six months in a italy/spain could put another £10M on hes head.

Unless they are traded to my team, then good plays become mediocre.
