Or we've built up a little good will and open lines of communication by not attempting to hold them to ransom.

Most clubs in England WILL NOT DO BUSINESS with Sullivan - the man in charge of our transfer policy.

That reason alone should warrant the imposition of a proper DOF, or preferably his complete removal from the club.
I think they’d do business with Sullivan, but they know of his reputation as wanting to doing a deal with him thinking he’s getting one over them. Eg price is 10 so he offers 4. They probably accept room for negotiation in all deals but he takes the biscuit. In the meantime, another club offers a price that has room for a bit of manoeuvre and once agreed they have there player.
We then get the ‘we tried’ story.

"And really, Steven Pienaar wasn't a winger"
He wasn't exactly a classic winger, but he played as a sort of hybrid midfielder-winger. But I would argue that he was much more of a winger than a midfielder.

I shall be delighted if we get him, but right now, I'm not getting why he would prefer us over Palace. Unless it is purely the wages. That's one thing we can beat them at

I like the idea of that. Get Sullivan in a small room with him to really negotiate up close and face-to-face.

I doubt players look at the owners and stadium from a fans perspective. For Bowen it’s play in a modern stadium in front of 50,000+. He isn’t buying popcorn and sitting with away fans in the home areas. If our owners offer him a bigger wage and pay it on time, I’m sure Bowen will be fine...

I also think it is unarguable that West Ham are a bigger club. I would also argue that it may be tough to sign up for Palace, given Roy could choose to retire at any time. If he goes, I would wager so will Palace (to the Championship).

Not that we are a bastion of managerial stability.

Tell ya what, if it is true we are in talks for Giroud, that is great business. I think he would make a massive difference to our forward line.

#WHUFC favourites to beat #CPFC and #NUFC to #hullcityfc forward Jarrod Bowen. Understand fee would be less than £16m. Has scored 17 goals this season playing mostly on the wing, and at 23 is the sort of age #Moyes is looking for

(@pbsportswriter)

Been calling for this for a year this is exactly what we need to be doing

I'd rather we were relegated than do this.

Giroud is already 33, 34 at the very beginning of next season.

He's been at Arsenal and Chelsea.

His motivation for turning down Newcastle is that he wants to stay in London.

Red lights flashing everywhere. Age, motivation, longevity, short termism. We've got to break that cycle - even if going down is the price.

This is the exact type of signing we should be making, frustrating we have left it so late.

Thats daft - he will be a loan to the end of the season. It would be a win-win.

Better late than never! Anyway, this is always how the window goes for almost everyone. Even a powerhouse like Man Utd.

Yes but in our position short termism is a necessary evil to stay up.

But our record of signing old, former goalscorers, is not good.

If he came to us he would just be another player being paid to no next to nothing.
