The January Transfer Window 2020

Post by bubbles1966 »

What's the feeling ?

Minimal spend? What should we do?

Personally, I think the reserve 'keeper appears a bit leaden-footed whilst Fabianski has now had two injuries. I think there's a probable need to reconfigure midfield and add a bit of pace into the attack.

I'd definitely bring Diangana back.

Oddly enough, I think the defenders are doing reasonably well, in spite of us going for 2 per game in the last three. Midfield remains a mess far too often against any team with a bit of tempo and physicality.

Time to draw the line with some of the 30+ veterans.

The performance from Gomes yesterday was everything we were missing imo. Kick starting the attack and passing beyond players into space for the attackers to run on to. That could be Lanzini, or Fornals, or Noble but if they can't do it then we need to look at someone who can. Tough decisions need to be made about who plays there.

Bubbs, the social media leaks have already started mate. Loan CB and loan striker at best. Minimal spend = loan players.

I’m not a fan of the clubs media strategy but they are rarely wrong when managing expectations ahead of a window.

We desperately need a much more consistent Obiang type imo but may as well enjoy the good bits where we can - as this season is sailing to mid table mediocrity at best.

If it was down to me:

- CM: Go all out for Abdoulaye Doucoure. Watford are bottom of the League, give them a big offer and hopefully Doucoure will push for the move. Then Rice will FINALLY have the central midfield partner he desperately needs;

- AM: Ryan Fraser I believe still hasn't signed a new contract. Give Bournemouth the money they want and bring him in. It potentially weakens a rival and it will hopefully add more goals scored and give us more created chances. He playes on the left like Anderson so he'll finally have competition to hopefully up his game. And if we wanted to play both Anderson can play on the right anyway.

- ST: Aleksandar Mitrovic is the back up striker I would look for. If Fulham look likely to miss out on promotion give them a big bid and he may be tempted with an easy way back to Premier League football.

We should have plenty of money left to use with the sales from the summer so no excuses. And these players wouldn't be on the highest wages in the world. And even if we have to borrow some of the budget from next summer's window the more we strengthen the less signings we'll have to make next summer anyway. Common sense Sully

Replacement for Hernandez, replacement for Adrian, replacement for Obiang, new midfield enforcer

They won’t though

I think Ajeti is meant to be a replacement for Hernandez, and on the very scant viewing of his 15 minutes yesterday, he at least made a couple of decent runs.

I think we need a 'keeper; my suspicion is that Fabianski is perhaps going to be injury prone and the other two are cheap fillers.

I would off Zabaleta and Sanchez, if it's at all possible.

We absolutely desperately need at least one player in with Rice who will put themselves about. Rice is making more tackles than Noble, Lanzini, Wilshere and Fornals put together. Wilshere has made one tackle this season, Noble hasn't made a tackle in the last four games. If we're lucky we might get one a game out of Lanzini and Fornals.

They're playing a non contact sport. They are guilty of what Cresswell was doing for ages.

Yesterday, WHU 11 tackles - Everton 24.

Depends who the Manager is though. The leaks and negative comments have already started circulating through the usual outlets.

There is already an agenda building in case we start to slide.

A new Manager means a minimum 25 million. Pellers still in charge means 5-10 in loans

FWIW I think they would be mad to get rid, but football is lunacy nowadays.

Jose is without a club and our owners love a headline

We've only scored 11 goals in 9 league games. Burnley have scored more. I feel that we would be better playing two strikers in a lot of games.

Why isn't Ajeti getting minutes? That's a more important question.

The owners wont spend in January unless we are in the bottom 3 or if Pellers has been sacked. Also Pellers does not like loan signings so cant see any in-comings in January.

Sullivan wont be spending anything in January, the Hernandez cash grab was exactly that.

Next summers transfer kitty will be coming from the sale of one or more of Rice, Anderson, Lanzini, Haller or Diop.

Rinse and repeat.

I think Funky Chicken nails it, in my opinion we only need one player and it’s glaringly obvious, a Doucoure type midfielder with pace, energy, box to box. We are just too slow and weak in the middle. Kessie was another one we were looking at. That sort of midfielder would transform us.

Bristol makes another great point, Mourinho still without a club. Would he ‘lower’ himself to West Ham? Listening to him talk today, I am still a massive fan and would take him here in a heartbeat, I know others would disagree.
