Obviously you have to take this with a massive helping of salt as it is Rodgers, but he previously said:

“I would have paid many millions more for this kid. He’s unique in that he’s a British player who is incredible on the ball.

“Joe’s role is to keep the ball. And that, in Britain, is a special talent. It is why Paul Scholes is still playing to his age. It is such a rare talent for a midfielder to rarely give the ball away.

“Where we have been really pleased with Joe is with his tactical discipline. Maybe he’s never going to score as many as Steven Gerrard but he’s certainly got quality going forward.

“Offensively, he has far more than what a lot of people have seen, just because he’s having to play a more sitting role at the moment.

“I have played him in there because he knows how to control the game. He is courageous and will go and get the ball in any area.

“It is his tactical discipline to stay and keep the shape of the team and offer the passing line, which has been really good though."

Were we wrong then, or wrong now?

Bearing in mind the previous decision was based on his form in the premier league and watching him at close quarters.

You mean when Moyes was lining him up before Pellers came in?

"Joe does my head in, he can look like a headless chicken and poor at keeping his position for sure, but when he has confidence in those around him in a system that everyone understands, then he starts to look like a high pressing superb midfielder. When nub job was trying the james McLean at left back experiment Joe was literally trying to do his own job along side dropping back to help out at left back. Since we have been playing the system with clucas and james back in his proper position he has had to help out on that side of the pitch much less. To see the very best of Joe we just need to replace Ince with someone willing to do their job much like James on the other side."

Basically it sounds like he has been trying to do the job of multiple men in a struggling side devoid of confidence. Doesn't help that the before getting Michael O'Neill in they had hired a young bloke after the chairman spoke to a fan at a pub in Luton! (Of course there is more to it than that, but that is the spark that led to them appointing Nathan Jones)
The consensus I gathered from reading through the last five or six pages of that thread is Allen is as poor under the previous two managers but found a bit of form under the current incumbent, but they’d snap our hands off for anything above £10m.

Which ever way you look at it. It’s short-termism

If you look back at his Arsenal peak, then Wilshere is a much better player than Snodgrass for sure, isn't he?
Also, Allen has played for Liverpool and in the Champions League. He plays at a higher level to Snodgrass, who is actually a winger anyway, and should only be in midfield in an emergency. Wilshire was better than both at his peak.

So we've gone from Gedson Fernandes to Joe Allen in the space of 24 hours.

What a surprise :asleep:

Let Adrian go on a free, sign Roberto and Martin. Realise Roberto is useless, spend 4m on the keeper that played second fiddle to Adrian whilst he was here, meanwhile Adrian is playing his part in an all conquering Liverpool side and looks like he's almost certainly going to collect a league winners medal. Madness.

That being the case, Joe Allen wouldn't qualify to take a ride on that

Apples to oranges - strikers to midfielders (and Michu has retired anyway). And Allen still plays wonderfully for Wales alongside Aaron Ramsey. Joe Allen plays to a much higher level when surrounded by better players, as he will do here.

My apologies - I agree with you on Randolph. We have our management dream team to thank for our keeper scenario at the moment. We are probably paying out more than we saved on wages!

Allen is basically the Welsh Mark Noble, 3 years younger. Mark Noble is still a decent Premier League player, Joe Allen would be if he was in the Premier League.

One thing we should not also overlook is that Allen is a good person and a model professional. The more of those you can get in this day and age the better, as they are an asset beyond what they do on the field.

I don't mind Joe allen the player or the footballer. He is a very skilled player but with what we need to build a balanced team and his skillset we already have. we are severly lacking in pace and physicality and his signing would not address that.

I’d rather watch Gazza or Diego thanks
