As if Moyes will have a say in anything transfer wisePuff Daddy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:34 am I would like to think under Moyes, we will be a bit more discerning over our transfer activities. Recruiting for positions that geuinely need strengthening and signing players, not only within the confines of our budget, but also, by researching their personalities too. What they do in their spare time, where and how they spend it too etc. It would furthermore, be good to sign players who are genuinely two footed, a pretty basic requirement nowadays. It has come to light, one player signed by Pellegrini, openly admitted to him, he was a bit of a ****,

Thanks Burnley. It's behind a paywall though.
If anyone has signed up can they post the bit that refers to "It has come to light, one player signed by Pellegrini, openly admitted to him, he was a bit of a ****"
Ta.

The quote is
"The emphasis was put on bringing in good characters, especially after one player told a member of Pellegrini’s close circle on arriving, “I’m a **** so you’d better get used to it”."
It's a confusing sentence... doesn't make it clear whether it's Pellegrini's arrival or the players arrival. I suspect it's the former and the player was already in the squad before he arrived.

Looks like Barbosa is back on the table as Sullivan wants him and Pellegrini didn't. Barry Silkman has "offered to be involved".

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
I actually think Joe Allen is a good call. Very good cover for Noble/Rice or even in addition to. Won't cost zillions, experienced in Premiership, good engine, 2-4 years left, regularly 6-8 out of 10. I agree, not 'next level, but good enough to help us establish ourselves back at 'mid-level' this year.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
Say Joe Allen comes in, what wage would he be on? £50k a week doesn't seem mad these days. That means we're paying Noble, Allen and Wilshere somewhere around £200k per week to all fill very similar roles where we can only play one at a time anyway.
I'm not really against Allen as a player, always been a fan, I just don't see how that's a sensible use of whatever limited budget Moyes is going to have.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
FJ has it right, why spend money to fill up the bench?
You’ll never improve doing that...

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
Bang on, if we can't afford/obtain anyone who can improve the starting line up then keep your wallet closed
Box to Box Midfielder
Both full back positions
Those are the players we should be identifing and purchasing who will go straight into team

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
This is spot on.
Spend to improve a starting eleven, because the players who get replaced and relegated to the bench (assuming they're not sold) can then fight for their place back if the desire's there.

All the talk about Joe Allen baffles me, we have Josh Cullen on our books, I’d rather call him back.
