Liverpool given a penalty - wow no shock there then ?
It was a clear penalty...

Despite all the negativity (and I agree with most of it) holding on for a win yesterday would’ve had us sitting 6th.

10 games gone, bizarre league really, Liverpool being the only good team, City 2nd already dropped 8 points,

Liverpool dominating Spurs now.
Thanks to the REFEREE...

One of the most ONE SIDED matched I´ve seen in a while.

Pen was a gift, well packed and with a nice card too.

And Alexander-Arnold SHOULD have been sent off.

We'd be 6th if Anderson had shaved his legs before the Palace game.

It is starting to look as though Leicester might well make the top 4. They've already played away at Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Palace are gonna mess around and get in to Europa League.
They are more than welcome to it, TK.
It will mess their season right up, next year.

But, as a referee, I think, you have ALSO to know the historial, CV and profile of such a player ( cheater ) like Mané, who at the first touch, he falls, ("even if a fly get in contact with his hair", he would also get "hair pain", he stumble and its a pen, no doubt ! ?).

I really think, this has to be also in the evaluation of the pen.

I get what you're saying UdC but you'd run the risk of not giving a penalty, when you should.
Each occasion has got to be judged on its own merits. Some players have rightly got a bad reputation for 'winning' penalties but if you start judging penalty decisions on the players reputation, you're bringing bias into the picture.
Now that we've got VAR, it should have already started ruling out, 'bent penalties'.
I said should..

thing is though (Aurier was it ?) had possession of the ball, was swinging his leg to clear the ball and Mane nipped in - his leg was already in motion how is he a) supposed to stop the swing and b) he wasn't even looking at Mane at all.

in the NFL - incidental contact ?

OM getting hammered by PSG, Payet looks well a bit like he has enjoyed himself, grown a beard to cover the second chin I think

PSG look great with a front three of Di Maria utter class, one of the best wingers in the world for years, Mbappe a generational talent and Icardi will get goals, works really well.

And, without shooting down my own post, Mane (& probably others) very much has previous for 'winning' exactly that sort of penalty.
I will shout all day long, if it looks like the defender had absolutely no intention of making the foul, I don't see that it's fair to give the penalty.
How or why is it fair that you should be penalised for an accident? (I realise that people often are).
It's completely different to a deliberate foul or hand ball, imo.
I grant you, the difficulty is very much, separating the two.
Mane (& others) know this & have become REALLY skilled at taking advantage of that. I think it's professional cheating & an ugly part of the game.
I haven't seen today's incident yet, so am not really commenting on that, but if Cuenca's analysis is correct, it sounds like a con.
Again, completely different from what Lanzini got punished for, the other season. C&B specs on, of course..

Hmm, imagine Payet & Haller, in the same team..

Mane takes the ball into the area and is heading away from goal. The defender swings his boot, is nowhere near the ball and kicks him in the back of the leg bringing him down.

He isn't playing the ball. Its badly timed but not malicious but the contact prevents the attacker from staying on his feet.

Samba

I am pretty sure that I am correct in my analysis. I could be wrong. a lot of alcohol passed my lips this weekend (understandably)

BBC and two other papers say Aurier fouled Mane.

I seem to remember Aurier winning the ball, took it wide and was attempting to clear the ball. now his touch wasn't great. he brought his leg back to swing, Mane nipped in between him and the ball and Aurier's swing hits the back of Mane's leg. he was looking down at the ball and was completely unaware of Mane

Mane didn't have the ball, Aurier did. he wasn't attempting a tackle. he was trying to clear the ball. I can see the lads on here saying stone wall. I can. BUT. the leg was in motion. he cannot possibly stop the action. it was not a mistimed challenge at all. he catches Mane just before he would have cleared the ball.

make up yer own mind !!!!!!

Payet was incredible for us but I often think if only he played for us with Hernandez, Arnautovic and Haller instead of Carroll, Sakho and Emineke
