Who was responsible for signing Roberto?

Post by poplargeezer » Sat Nov 23, 2019 11:28 pm

We are landed who is now being talked about as the worst in Premiership - and that is perhaps flattering him.
So who was responsible for signing him?

Someone, somewhere thought he was a Pre.iership player.

We've gone from having a reserve goalie who has played this season in the Champions League to a farce.

So who is responsible? Who is to blame?

For some strange reason no one at the club appears to be taking the credit🤷🏼‍♂️

The club took a massive gamble on Fabianski staying fit all season.

Also took a massive gamble on Haller being the only striker required.

Also took a massive gamble on Fornals being able to cope with the physicality of the premier league.

All in all a great summer transfer window!

Husillos, I believe, who was sporting director at Málaga during most of his loan spell there (although he wasn't Husillos signing for them). He obviously saw something in him, despite the fact Málaga finished bottom of La Liga that year. :?

To be fair, I think Roberto is naturally a good shot stopper, just seriously lacking in other parts of his game that have really been exposed in the PL. His confidence must be at absolute zero and it's there for all to see. He looks like he's on the verge of tears the entire time and I honestly feel bad for him. That's not to say I think he's anywhere near good enough for this level, mind.

I don't think a massive gamble was taken on fab's fitness, keepers rarely get major injuries, we just signed a duff back-up. It's not so much that he makes spectacular cock-ups, he just fails to do the basics properly like the first goal yesterday. He's probably cost us 6 or 7 points so far.

How much is Roberto being paid?

How much would it have cost to keep Adrian?

Who’s responsible for us conceding 32 shots on target in 4 games?

Roberto is ****, but it shows how much we rely on a decent keeper in Fabianski, because how **** we are in general. So many other areas are a problem. Roberto is just part of it...

He's not just a part of the problem. He's a major part of the problem.

32 shots on target against us in 4 games. Whoever is in goal has a hard job to do. Those numbers are pathetic. Everyone knows how **** our goalkeeper is, yet we still do nothing to prevent having a ridiculous amount of shots against him...

Like I said previously fab saved most shots last season now we have a rubbish keeper what do you expect we’ve still got the same issues with the defending in front of the keeper

It happened constantly last season. Look at yesterday, lazy marking to allow Dele space, half arsed challenge by Diop for the first....Snodgrass not bothering to close down Aurier for the third and Diop once again failing to make any meaningful attempt at heading the ball.

Defensively we are a shambles and it was the same last season. Pellegrini did nothing about it whatsoever.

Adrian didn’t want to stay.

Backup at West Ham or backup at Liverpool? :?

Agreed, Roberto is crap but he is being scapegoated beyond belief for problems we've had for ages under Pellers, it's easy to point and call the keeper dreadful but it's far deeper than that.

Fab wasn't HOTY last year for no reason. Our defence is shocking, if it wasn't so bad then maybe Roberto's failings would not have been so exposed.

Shouldn't this be in the Roberto thread?

There's one for Hullios one for Pellers and one for Sullivan too

To be fair, Adrian left us with no clear destination and was long gone before he got the Liverpool gig.(If memory serves).
As others have said, Sully probably thought, 'Get a cheaper No. 2 in, save a few quid, we'll probably never have to use him' Which would prove they know f*** all about how this club's 'luck' works.

This is exactly what happened.
Sully had to put his hand in his pocket at the start of the 2018/19 season, this is something he hates doing. But he figured that he could recoup some of that money by thinning out or squad, this year.

When taking into account the wage reductions we probably had about a net zero spend this summer. I've been angry about it several times, I've said it many times, but the 18/19 summer window was pointless if we weren't going to go again this summer. We didn't. We went backwards as a squad. It was.
