Wasn't that always likely to be the case?

Has anybody else thought that BFF will again raise two fingers to us with an attempt to reunite Rice and Mount?

I don't see our board turning down the money.

That was my first thought, when I heard the news.

In the Summer yes
I doubt he will go this transfer window as he won't get in their team and that would jeopardise his England position

I can definitely see him going there after the Euros though

Although there is certainly an argument that they are well stocked in those DM positions

I think Liverpool could also be interested

They also have Jorginho and Kovacevic
But they might think that Rice is for the future, especially as he fits the bill of the type of player Lampard [and their fans] want

Rice still has strong affinity to Chelsea, so i think he would be up for it next Summer, especially if they come top 4. Plenty of games to go around then

One player I can definitely see them going for, is Zaha.

With Pedro, Willian, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi already there I think Zaha might be a stretch.

I reckon they won't go after anyone. Might be the odd purchase to loan back for the rest of the season. And they'll target Dortmund (again) and Ajax.

They'll be looking to shift dead weight now they are able to replace it.

Giroud, Willian, Pedro, Alonso, Batshuayi are all done there in any long term capacity and they'll be touted around to anyone willing. I suspect a number of them will end up in Italy. Some has been will probably end up with us, like a pricey dead weight around our neck.

Once they've cleared those wages out the squad they'll make their moves. I think their big rebuild comes in the summer once Lampard has assessed them all fully over a season, but those 5 above are very much not part of the plan anymore.

To be fair i never said that
I have long thought Chelsea will be Rice's next destination, but not this January
If a very good offer comes in for Rice, the board will naturally consider it

There’s a little piece of me actually happy about this news, Lamps has built a nice team ethic. Some of these players wouldn’t have had a chance to play without the ban being in place, and they’re playing for each other.

Lift the ban and give him a load of money and watch him bring in a couple of superstar billy big bollox players and totally disrupt the harmony of the team.

Keeping everything crossed this is the case.

And the fine will cripple them as well.

£230,000 I think was quoted. Just takes the f**king p**s.

Pretty sure that Rice would be off if a top 4 team comes in for him, next Summer. Having read what he wants to achieve in his career, I can't see that he believes that he can do that with us. He wants to win things.

I think your basing that on being a West Ham fan Bill. Big clubs have lots of players for every position.

As much as I hate Chelsea I don't think that us as a club caught cheating can moan about another club caught cheating.

Similarly we are likely to be in a relegation fight all season. That never encourages players to stay.

They will give it all the crossed arms nonsense but money and silverware talks and we aren't seeing any of that soon.

Lampard went as soon as his uncle was sacked but had been talking to Chelsea for weeks before. Noble almost went to Arsenal.

Loyalty is a supporters affliction
