Are we burgundy and blue?

Does exactly what it says on the tin - the forum for football-related discussion.

Are we burgundy and blue?

Post by poplargeezer » Sat Dec 14, 2019 11:55 pm

Just watching MOTD and our game followed by Burnley.
The Burney kit reminded me our kit in the 60 and 70s which is not as deep as our current shirt.
Has the colour of our shirts evolved to burgundy and blue?
If so do we need to change our chants?
Burgundy is a bugger of a word to rhyme with.
Has our colour changed

Burgundy has a brownish tinge traditionally which always distinguished Burnley from us and Villa. Ours has changed over the years and generally seems darker to me than the 60s and 70s version while the blue that used to be very pale has a deeper hue most years these days but I don't see that dark brownish tinge typical of Burnley. Maybe Burnley's has become more claret in recent years, it used to be a good bit darker and far less saturated than ours.

Seems to me after the comments made in this thread that we are now the team in Burgundy and Turquoise.
Doesn't quite lend itself to a good chant.

The best claret and blue reference in a chant must be the Mary Poppins 'Chim Chimery...'

Trying to think of other songs mentioning our colours. Any suggestions?

Bow Bells are ringing for the claret and blue
The birds are singing for the claret and blue
When the 'Ammers are scoring
And the North Banks roaring
It'll never get boring
For the claret and blue

Claret and blue

Claret and blue

Can't remember when I last heard it sung though!
