Crystal Palace 2-1 West Ham Utd (26/12/19)

Post by Samba »

Boxing Day Thursday 26th December
Kick Off 3pm

Not too long a journey but still no Boxing Day home game for us..
Let's hope it's not us or the turkey getting stuffed. An away win would be a fine, Christmas present.
Weather's looking average - cloudy, dry, 9°C. No chance of a White Christmas, I see..

A comfortable Palace win. Their physical midfield will cut through our midfield like knife on butter.

Plus due to Frederick's suspension teacher's pet Grandpa Zabaleta will end up playing. And Zabaleta vs Zaha = Disaster.

Fingers crossed either Fabianski, or Martin are okay for this game.

zabaleta has done well against Zaha in the past but he is older and slower now. would be a big risk. hopefully Johnson can come in and do well.
their midfield will test ours for sure with McCartney and milanovic in there to provide the tackels.
a completely different team to saints and one that will cause us roblems and beat us easily I fear.

martin
Johnson Balbuena ogbonna cresswell
Snodgrass noble rice fornals
Antonio haller

subs anang diop masuaka Anderson coventry Holland ajeti

yarmolenko has been awful and is a waste of a space on the bench
sanchez as above
wilshere is still working hard on his fitness !
fabianski not ready for his return
lanzini not ready either
reid still trying to get fit

What does the mutter man do about Anderson for this?
I dare say that every West Ham fan would want as close to the same line up, that we had Vs Saints, as possible. But I have a feeling that the pertinacious Chilean will want to start Felipe.

We have a very good record at Selhurst, where I don't think we have lost since 2002. Many of those matches have been draws, however and that is how I think this one will end. 1-1

I can't see past playing Antonio at right back for this. A massive loss to our attack but Zaha will destroy Zabaleta, hopefully Johnson is fit.

Martin
Balbuena Ogbonna Cresswell
Antonio Noble Rice Masuaku
Fornals
Ajeti Haller

Roberto, Diop, Zabaleta, Holland, Snodgrass, Yarmolenko, Anderson

We lost there under Allardyce. Stinker of a game on a cold Tuesday in December.

This will be a good test, and think we will get a hard fought draw. 2-2, I would go with this team, Snodgrass right back and Anderson on the right. Give Antonio a free role just off Haller.

Fabianski

Snodgrass Balbuena Ogbonna, Cresswell

Anderson Rice Noble Fornals

Antonio Haller.

Subs: Martin, Zabeleta, Yarmolenko, Ajeti, Sanchez, Holland, Diop.

Exactly the team I’d go with.

Fancy Anderson in this one, and I think Snodgrass at full back could work.

Snodgrass at right back is an horrendous idea.

He's never played there, he's left footed which makes a massive deal when tackling on the outside, he's rash and slow.

I appreciate we've got to do something to mitigate for the Zabaleta factor, but random players thrown into positions they have never played is not the answer.

I'd rather see Snodgrass relinquish all offensive duties and just man mark Zaha literally wherever he goes.

If we can play with the same intensity as Saturday we'll win this, especially after 2 weeks rest and we'll probably have Fabianski back. We should have beaten them last time but for Roberto.

Zaha running at Zabaleta has penalties written all over it. Ben Johnson perhaps?

Let's hope we can turn up.

If Fabianksi is back I think we will scrape a draw 1-1. If Martin is in goal I think we will lose 2-1. If Roberto is in goal then its a cricket score...

Cresswell could fill in at right back
Yes he is quite one footed, but he is experienced enough to swap flanks

Think Pardew played a left footed right back away to Arsenal. Think that was the famous Sol being subbed at HT incident. Might be mistaken.

Helped with the wide player looking to cut inside on to the full backs stronger side.

I would start with Zab or Johnson. Or the other option is going with 3 at the back with Diop being the right CB because of his pace to cover
