Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
They are good players being misused. You can’t tell me Anderson, Haller, Fornals, Rice, Diop are average players. They just need a manager to put them in a good attacking system. Unfortunately with Moyes there is no chance of that so ultimately fans will blame it on players being average when in fact the problem runs deeper than that

You can't blame it on Moyes being defensive... our last manager couldn't get much out of them either and he was an attack minded manager.coyi27 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 1:55 pm They are good players being misused. Every so often, we'll play a game and look like the worst team on the planet. Happened under Moyes, happened under Pellegrini, happened under Bilic.
Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
I didn’t think Bilic or Pellegrini were the answers. Bilic talks a good game, but he never really convinced me he could set up a team to attack with conviction and press and defend. His West Brom team might be top of the league but if you look at underlying stats they shouldn’t be anywhere near where they are and it’s not surprising the wheels have fallen off. Pellegrini was way too old and under motivated after his China spell to be building a new team from the scratch. Imo we need a Greame Potter, Thomas Frank, Nuno Espírito Santo type of young progressive, manager with good underlying stats in previous jobs to take over.

Does that not then highlight what a great job he is doing there. They play some cracking football, they are the Championships Leading goal scorers and the fans bloody love him.

Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
You could have said the same thing about his time at West Ham during the first half of his first season. We didn't really dominate games, and from what I recall, we didn't have more shots than the opposition... but we did go through a streak where we were very clinical in front of goal. So much so that, for a few games, it felt like we scored every time we attacked. It's the kind of streak we could do with nowbrothernero wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 2:31 pm "His West Brom team might be top of the league but if you look at underlying stats they shouldn’t be anywhere near where they are"

Yes mate he’s done ok like he always does at the start like he did with us but I want our manager to be able to do it longterm. He’s always reliant on one or two players rather than having a system that will compensate for them being out. As soon as Diangana got injured they’ve started being out played by all relegation teams such as Wigan, Middlesbrough, Barnsley. Just like us when Payet got injured we could string a pass together. I have a lot of love for Bilic with his passion but West Brom haven’t played well for 2 months and fans are beginning to question him.brothernero wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 2:31 pm "His West Brom team might be top of the league but if you look at underlying stats they shouldn’t be anywhere near where they are"

Nothing new, we’ve done the same thing as long as I can remember that’s what makes the big wins more memorableBurnley Hammer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 2:05 pm Every so often, we'll play a game and look like the worst team on the planet. Harry Potter?
Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
There are a number of realistic managers who have really good underlying stats, play decent football and have an identity who I feel would make us enjoy going to matches again.Adrianisournumber1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:34 pm Coyi so who could come here and make this side win with no budget
Oliver Glasner from Wolfsburg
Marco Rose from Borussia M’gladbach
Jesse Marsch from Salzburg
Stephane Moulin from Angers
All youngish, realistic to recruit and with a good analytical football brain and an attacking football identity.

Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
We've played 5 games since he came back...
- We got walloped by a top 3 team
- We had two tight games against middling teams, probably lacking a little edge to get over the line in those games
- We walloped a bottom 3 team
- We beat a lower league team in the cup.
We are playing to par.
Signing some decent players who are suited to the PL in 2020 in place of players who aren't will make a bigger difference than any manager.
If we carry on along that path we'll probably beat West Brom, get trashed by Liverpool, beat Brighton, and get double thumped by Liverpool and Man City. Southampton at the end of February should be winnable - we're something like five wins in the last six against them.
The odd thing is that we could be in a cup quarter final whilst looking like we're certs to go down come the end of February.

Every manager has done well at the start here and always come a cropper in the same manner and similar timescale.coyi27 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 2:41 pm Yes mate he’s done ok like he always does at the start like he did with us but I want our manager to be able to do it longterm. Bil has us playing some sensational stuff at times, then the Payet problem happened followed by the great turd from above dumping a shed load of crap loanies on him

Just out of interest, does anyone one here (aside from ironing board) think that any other Premier League team would have given Moyes a job?
Re: David Moyes - 18th Permanent Manager of WHUFC
I agree. It’s hard to believe they’ve become successful businessmen with such short term thinking.
