I'll be giving any new manager my wholehearted support for the rest of the season at least. Absolutely no point in getting on his case early doors.

If results don’t go his way though it’s going to get ugly. The toxicity in that stadium is already palpable, but it will truly go off the scale if he doesn’t get the results and get them fast.

Truth be told there is not a huge points difference between tenth and eighteenth, but we were looking like a team in freefall and unlikely to move up. A top ten finish is still achievable with very little in the way pf improvement, just getting the team organised defensively, which you would think Moyes is capable of. However I am never a fan of going back as it never seems to end well and his previous spell was adequate rather than impressive both in results and style of play.

Leicester so confident they put out their reserves yet we still cannot raise a head of steam despite being at home. Pellers had to go and we need someone who can steady the ship PDQ with a tough Jan/Feb ahead after Bournemouth.

No ideal manager who is likely to want to be associated with us as we are. If Moyes hits his 29% win rate and the same draws as before we stay up. That is critical.

These pricks won’t pay for the standard of player required for the likes of Pellegrini/ Zola / Billic. So after the initial burst of joy at their appointments it all comes crashing down as we don’t have the personnel to be competitive.

If he got us running, defending, attacking, winning etc all on a shoestring why is he still unemployed almost 2 years on. Half the league has changed manager since then, have they all missed something that only our chairman has spotted?

I didn't mind him last time and he probably earned a proper crack at the job. Going back feels like a recipe for disaster though. Would be ok with Pearce back as number 2 whoever comes in.

There are 6 clubs in the league who he has either managed or they genuinely wouldn't consider him because of their size - the usual top 6. That means 14 jobs.

Call us club 7. That only leaves 13.

Three have just been promoted so are understandably sticking to their managers. That leaves 10.

Palace, Bournemouth and Burnley all have long established managers. So, 7.

Watford, Southampton and Wolves have all tended to fix on the foreign based ownership's connections. None are particularly likely destinations for most British managers. So, we're down to 4.

Leicester have Rodgers. He's better than Moyes; but just about everything about the way Leicester are run is better than here, tbf. That leaves 3.

Everton? If they don't want to go back, that's 2.Remember, they had the Allardyce experience at the same time we had Moyes and were fewmin'.

That leaves two realistic alternatives that have been available and pretty open to British managers of the same/similar pedigree to Moyes - Newcastle and Brighton. They took Steve Bruce (the Newcastle support considered him a downgrade on Benitez) and Graham Potter. Potter is an interesting one - as he has a different philosophy to Hughton , but I don't think I've ever seen anyone here put him up as a name for us.

The number of genuinely promising vacancies in the PL for a British manager is relatively few.

Moyes will take the job if offered, because the reality for managers from his generation (Allardyce, McLaren, Hughes, Pardew, Curbishley, Pulis, Warnock, Phil Brown etc) is that they need to take the chance now because Steven Gerrard, Scott Parker, John Terry etc are going to be getting these jobs, sooner rather than later.

I think if we are relegated then there is less chance of G&S selling up because the value of the club will decrease.
