Relatively early in the game against a team who were mostly sitting off deep, I doubt he would manage that again in 70th minute.thejackhammer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:58 pm Mark Noble's burst of pace to run around the Bournemouth player and into the box for the penalty was the most shocking thing of the year.

I picked up on that post as well ES. Does seem to make it glaringly obvious that the Premier League is pretty much two leagues.EugeneSpeed wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 8:30 am Thought this was an interesting post...
"We will go down at some time. Only seven teams are established in this division. The most (consecutive) any of the other 13 have spent in the PL is eight seasons. Those are West Ham and Southampton. Both struggling. After that it's Palace (seven) and Leicester (six). The other nine teams are led by us and Watford with five seasons. Almost half. Sustainability is very challenging."

Fair enough but considering this is the matchday thread why not just give him the credit for our biggest home win in 15 years? We've played a few sides this season that were apparently there for the taking and managed to come away with sweet fa.ironsonthebrain wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 11:25 am Give Moyes 5 or 6 games for an honest assessment - one swallow and all that.
He might not be many people's first choice (myself included) but he's delivered a result that as a stand alone match in it's own right should be accepted as worthy of high praise.
GSB have taken enough from us already don't let them take the simple pleasure of enjoying a 4-0 home win from you/us as well.

While I agree with most of that this game was effectively a rerun of the Norwich game. The major difference was we got a 4th and Norwich were actually in decent form while Bournemouth were in **** form and we got the 4th. Both games we pressed and we're rewarded, both games we reduced them to just one real goalscoring chance, both games we could have had 6/7 in.Faithless wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 11:48 am Fair enough but considering this is the matchday thread why not just give him the credit for our biggest home win in 15 years? The new manager bounce, the actual pressing game, the fact that we were awake in the first 10 of the second half, the fact we didn't throw away any more points from winning positions is all positive, but even Moyes said he'd only had 1 and a half training sessions with them so his impact was limited. The praise and then the questions must come for the players who removed thumb from arse and put a shift in.

We actually managed 10 consecutive seasons 93-03.Eggs'n'nuts wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 11:40 am I picked up on that post as well ES. Does seem to make it glaringly obvious that the Premier League is pretty much two leagues.
It doesn’t contradict the points raised, but Southampton can f*** off.

Two things could be attributed to Moyes, the pressing game, and playing Anderson as support for Haller. The better attitude was undoubtedly new manager bounce, but that didn't happen the first time round. Truth is the team was a shambles last time, now it's a decent but demotivated squad. There's lots of good work been done by Pellegrini, lets hope Moyes can graft on discipline and tactical flexibility

Moyes giving credit to the players is simply good management. He doesn’t need the credit as much as the players, whose confidence and faith would have taken a bashing over the last 10 games and could do with a boost.
There is quite a lot a professional coach could do with a talented bunch of professional players in 2-3 days. That’s often how much a coach for a national team gets before qualifying matches. He said he kept instructions simple and concentrated on their work rate, the importance of getting the crowd behind the team. This is also sensible management.
He also imposed the press - the singular thing Bournemouth couldn’t deal with, put Anderson near Haller and selected the team. The number of crosses we put into their box wasn’t an accident either. It was tactical instruction.
There was undoubtedly new manager bounce at play. But there was also sensible coaching and decent tactics. Wonderful match.
