Connections: The Gills

Post by -DL- » Fri Jan 03, 2020 5:41 pm

What with us playing each other Sunday, I thought I'd see if I can get a series of threads going before each match, time permitting of course.

First one, as stated in the title, is the connections between us and Gillingham.

WHU were the visitors when Gillingham had their record attendance in their redeveloped ground back when we were in The Championship in the early 2000's.

There have been quite a few players that have played for both clubs - usually ones that have ended up at Gillingham after playing us - but there are one or two that have come to us after playing for The Gills - one of them being our former record signing Matt Jarvis.

Now, I could go trawling the internet and go and find a whole list of players that have played for both, plus other connections - but I won't, as no doubt with the font of all knowledge that is the KUMB readers and members - that's the purpose of this thread - for the contributors to add their connections they know of.

So fill your boots!

The most random connection wins, erm, zilch...

The only connection I can think of without the aid of Google is the Manny Omoyinmi fiasco when we played Aston Villa in a League Cup Quarter Final - he'd already represented Gillingham in the competition so we were forced into a replay which we lost .

As a baby/infant, I lived in Gordon Road and my parents used to sit me at the window to watch Gillingham which kept me amused (could only see about half of the ground) ..... I now support West Ham, who probably don’t keep me as amused.

He was the only one I could think of, which is why I mentioned him

When I met up with my old mates from Hatfield Polytechnic years later myself and Little Alan went off to see West Ham , Big Alan went to Crystal Palace and our mate Gwyn went off to Gillingham to see his team , Wrexham play - we met up in the West End afterwards .

That's the only other connection to Gillingham I have .

It took some googling, Roeder, player manager of Gillingham in 1993.
