West Ham Utd 1-1 Everton (18/01/20)

Post by Italian Hammer »

Feel obliged to start this one as it is my birthday on the 18th (mods feel free to delete if already done).

Just want 3 points and a decent performance.

Not too much to ask for, surely?

Cant see anything but another defeat sadly.
We were awful last night and if it's the same team again then it's all three points are going back to Merseyside.

We are bang in trouble.

I'd go with:

-----------------------------Martin/(Hopefully)New GK--------------------------

----------------------Balbuena-------Diop--------Ogbonna-----------------------

-Masuaku----------------------Rice--------Snodgrass-------------------Cresswell-

-------------------------------Fornals------Anderson---------------------------------

----------------------------------------Haller-------------------------------------------

Subs: Martin/Anang, Zabaleta (begrudgingly), Reid, Noble, Lanzini, Antonio (if fit), Ajeti.

If Anderson isn't fit then Lanzini to come into the team.

We weren't awful last night, Everton are much worse than Sheffield United, the team worked it was the Martin mistake and change of formation that made us worse.

With Antonio (hopefully) back in the squad I think that we’ll win. And while last night was hardly a vintage performance, I also don’t think we were as bad last night as people were making out.

It could be an ugly win but it would be a massive three points nonetheless.

The question is who will the new acquisitions be and will they make an impact on the game?

I think we all know how this is going to work out.
Another inept performance and a defeat. Probably into the bottom three. The Moyes honeymoon well and truly over. :asleep:

Sorry I disagree.. We were awful, slow in midfield no real threat up front a dodgy at the back..
When Snodders plays 20 minutes and is your best player on the pitch among multi million pound players then you have a huge problem.

Everton are the same level as Sheffield United, In fact with their new gaffer look decent.
The fact that people like you think that that performance was acceptable is what is wrong with this club, you accept that sort of performance at your peril.

I going to stick my neck out and say that unless we have a new GK and a new midfielder to replace Noble we will lose this.

I’ve always had a lot of time and respect for Nobes but sorry, he just ain’t doing it lately. Yes he played well and got 2 against Bournemouth but we saw him get chased last night all over the pitch. Wilder clearly knew he likes time on the ball and they were on him instantly. When this season started MP was giving him either 30 mins or 60 and that’s his limits now I’m afraid but unfortunately we have nobody else who can take his place.

If we have replacements as above we win. If we don’t we lose. Simple as that. Lose next week and the winnable games have another one chalked off the list...

Win this (well, we are at 'home') & things will be looking relatively ok.
Lose & we're then well in the clartz..
A draw would be pretty sh*t, as well.

Win or bust this game is for me. Know its still mathematically possible that we could survive but I've pretty much written off the next 3 away games after this. Vital that we get maximum points from the next 2 home games which look winnable on paper. Really hope Martin's confidence hasn't taken too much of a hit after last night, although the more I see it Balbuena was more to blame for the goal.

I'd go

Martin

Zabaleta - Diop - Ogbonna - Masuaku

Snodgrass - Fornals - Rice - Anderson

Antonio

Haller

If Antonio's not fit, Lanzini starts and swaps positions with Anderson.

Happy Birthday , Young Man - Buon Compleanno

We look harder to beat under David Moyes , hopefully that doesn't mean we've forgotten how to score .

Voices in my Head say - 3-1 to West Ham .

Thanks TOMOS, though not quite so young anymore

Been supporting WHU since the end of the 80/81 season so despite several relegations and if it is to be the case this year, so be it. I just hope we go down fighting and not with a whimper.

Curious to know which posters have the best record in starting the match day threads?

Anyone a lucky charm, or just jinxed?

if we do lose, everyone feel free to blame me!

It will be about taking our chances (been the story of the season) - last night we win if we are more clinical, poor performance but generally we created the better chances yet Anderson (in particular) and Haller (at least his effort though poor was on target) fluffed them.

Bournemouth were a very poor side, yes we got 4 but a decent team would have doubled that.

We are looking better at the back (0-0 but for the Martin/Balbuena idiocy), we will not have a plethora of chances against Everton though and we must make the most of the ones we get.

What's the point? We'll either play bad and lose or play OK and VAR will take our goal away or gift Everton one, I'd be happier if we just forfeited the rest of the games for the season and got relegated now, what would the fa do if nobody plays in their precious league?

They would not care, plenty of Championship teams want the gravy train.

Next few games are tough but we have plenty where, if we apply ourselves, we can get the points necessary. We lost a point last night not because of VAR but because of our own failings both ends of the pitch.

That would be the team I would pick but hopefully with another keeper

Unfortunately no way Moyes will go with that

The worrying thing with playing Everton is that in recent times they have played us off the park and Walcott always seems to play well against us. Last season at Home it could have been any score to them. I just feel it could be an uphill battle, we are definitely gonna have to get tactics right and hope they don’t perform like they normally do against us
