Welcome (again), Darren Randolph

Post by Up the Junction » Wed Jan 15, 2020 11:26 am

Darren Randolph has completed his return to West Ham.

He made his debut for West Ham at Roots Hall in July 2015 - a day on which we won 3-2 but he dropped a couple of clangers.

Though if WHUFC intend to continue the policy of signing former staff, I'd be quite happy if we could also bring back another lad who made his debut that afternoon...

He always worried me when dealing with crosses since that day at sunny Southend, but here's hoping the return works out. Good luck, Randy.

Welcome back Randolph...

An upgrade on our current alternatives to Fabianski and so in my eyes a welcome addition.

I wish him all the best and hope he does well.

Not his fault the club is run by a bunch of venal, amateur scum.

As a backup he is fine, still flaps at crosses but if he is happy to sit on the bench then great, this is obviously basically a free due to the money they owe us. Almost seems a bit disappointing after a tremndous year at Boro, he is happy to bench warming again. Three and half year deal so he will be what 36 ish by the end of the contract.

He'll be like a new signing when he's back from injury

Villa have just signed Pepe Reina, surely we should have been all over that?

The signing of a player that was not good enough and wanted to leave, to join the manager we also previously deemed not good enough.

Oh the joys of being a West Ham fan :asleep:

A better back up than Roberto or Martin so thumbs up from me as a back up but we need to buy a staring keeper in the summer Fab is getting on a bit and his injury might keep be a reoccurring thing.

I'm trying to imagine, back in the warm days of the summer when the transfer window shut, how hard it would to picture the next two signings in the door would be Moyes and Randolph.

We should never have sold him in the first place.

Did Boro still owe us money on the deal?

Yes, this was the kicker for the deal materialising.

He was a liability and the club had a duty to try and improve.

Is there a thread from when he left? I'm sure there would be posts saying it was a shame it didn't work out, seems like a good sort etc. – but I'd be amazed if there was a single poster expressing regret in terms of what we were losing on the playing side.
