Nevermind that, I reckon we should approach the Premier League to see if they'll allow us to forfeit a 0-2 home defeat and be done with it. I hate to think what the red scouse will do to us next week, the stuff of nightmares.Absolutely Hammered! wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 2:50 pm Anyone else think we should skip the Liverpool thread and go straight onto the brighton one?

You must be watching a different game to me. We have more back passes and sideways stuff than a team managed by Wilkins and ****ing vinnie sidewayssxreject1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 1:14 pm They are so scared to do anything else but pump and lump. In their minds, Haller and Antonio are the same, all they can see is there's a big lump of a target-man somewhere up the field, pump it and wipe their hands of any responsibility. After all, they can't be blamed if the ball is nowhere near them, right?

Clearly we must be watching different games. Leicester made 569 passes to our 273 and yet we registered 51 long balls to their 54.
But wait, you say, we were so **** and under pressure that our defense had no choice but to hoof it and that inflated our numbers. Set aside the fact that we comfortably held out against them last season for 70+ minutes with 10 men away, and should have killed off the home game 3-1 had that Lucas Perez goal been correctly awarded. Games against Liecester have always been where we respected them but never feared them. Even in their title winning season, we should have won at their place had it not been that soft penalty at the end. So let's set that all aside let's look at our previous games.
Keep in mind, crosses are a different category entirely. This should make the following stats even grimmer reading.
VS. Everton.
74 long balls played by us, 59 by Everton.
VS. Sheffield United.
76 long balls from us, 76 from them. Scintillating football this.
VS. Gillingham.
81 long balls from us, 74 from them. Yes, it's the right way around, we did play more long balls than a League One side.
VS. Bournemouth.
62 from us, 40 from Bournemouth. The only interesting fact is that Bournemouth were in a worst run than us, but they still didn't deviate from their ground game.
VS. Liecester "B".
65 from us to 59 from them.
VS. Crystal Palace.
45 from Palace and a whopping 70 from us. We are out-lumping and dumping a Roy Hodgson Palace side.
VS. Southampton.
This was game where the comments after the match were along the lines of "..see, you dummy Pellerigini, play Antonio next to Haller and all our problems will be solved". I viewed the game differently, it was the game where Pellers finally threw his hands up and decided to dumb down our tactics and completely cut the midfield out of the equation on attack.
Remember, the game before was against one of the weakest Arsenal teams in a long time - and we went a goal up and had been comfortably in the first half, only to capitulated in the second half with 2-3 goals in a 15 min spell. Pepe ran through the middle with ease and Pelleringini must have decided that he could no longer trust the midfield anymore and had us playing back to front, bypassing the midfield entirely. Coincidently, it was also the last game where we had attempted less long balls(by volume) than our opponents.
It should come as no surprise that this(Southampton) was the game where we had 87 long balls attempted.

Does anyone seriously take any notice of those rating thingsCrouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 6:22 pm 1 out of 10, 5 out of 10, 10 out of 10 is not that relevant
He scores and creates more than any of our other midfielders or creative players

top post.
It matters not who's in charge, our midfield is pony at passing and moving.

Yep, our defenders know that a pass to midfield is as good as turning the ball over, might as well go for a long pass, at least then if it turns over it's 30 yards farther away so they can catch their breath
