Boycott Talksport Advertisers

Post by Coops » Tue Jan 21, 2020 4:12 pm

I had this discussion on Hammers United facebook page. I suggested that we boycott Talksport, but somebody suggested that we boycott their advertisers instead.

West Ham fans boycotting of any goods or services advertised on the station until they stop sharing the boards lies and allowed a fair discussion around the running of our club. Hit them in the pocket and maybe they will start to change their tune.

This is something that we could all get on board with, spread the word on social media and on the forums.

Yes they are. One of Murdoch's companies.

Why?
To give them an incentive to report our side of the issue. The owners are feeding them lies for a reason and Talksport are towing the line. Lets give them a reason not to do that anymore.

There's only one fight that needs fighting, why waste time with this?

I technically already boycott Talksport.

Not because of anything West Ham related, I just find them to be an over the top ***** station with idiotic presenters. Even their actual live football commentary is unbearable too listen to.

Cant stand the station. Tries far to hard to be controversial and a shockjock station.

I believe that it would hurt the owners. There are lots of battles to be fought in this war, they are winning the media battle s they are all on their side.
I thought it was a good idea (not mine) and something that a lot of people could be vocal on social media about, without having to make much of an effort.
It seems I am in the minority.

I've damaged the aerial on the car. The punishment appears to be that I can access only 4 stations.

This smacks of a little bit pathetic to me and won't even be noticed by Talksports advertisers let alone make a blind bit of difference.

Besides, where do you expect me to buy all my trophies and medals from if not from trophies and medals .com (log on!).

I understand what you're saying coops, but will a small percentage of disgruntled West Ham fans, boycotting the station and its sponsors, make any difference to a station which broadcasts to millions?

I'm not against anyones ideas, just asking questions.

What do Talksport get out of backing the club, aside from feeding their staff?

I understand the rationale however, I am not sure how much of a dent it would make or it would be associated with a West Ham boycott. I don't know who the sponsors are but, will people stop buying McDonalds for example?

I used to listen to Talksport however, I now detest the station. It is very agenda driven and the phone in's are designed to anger people enough for them to phone in and rant; its all commercially driven rather than a true fan platform. There are some on there I had time for however, there are too many people on there who spoil it.

I was amazed how biased (even for Talksport) seemed to be peddling an almost dismissive line towards our recent static protest. For example The Moose (one of our own...) predicted circa 200 people (shows how much he knows of the fans) and eventually conceded that there was circa 900 fans....
He recently conducted an interview with Mr Gold that was so blatantly 'soft' that he got called out for it on Twitter, with fans questioning why he got an easy ride and no hard questions were asked. Moose claimed that the interview wasn't for the approval of 16 year olds on Twitter. No Moose, it was to tow the corporate line you have fell into and paint Granddad Gold with a shimmering light before a protest!

Do what I do as I am much happier now; I just put Spotify on shuffle...

The same as any other broadcaster that sucks up to the club. Access to players, management, press conferences and lunch.

If you criticise them - then what happens:
https://kumb.com/article.php?id=43631

Independent media constantly overlooked

For a period of 12 years, I was fortunate enough to enjoy widespread access to media events at West Ham United.

Between 2004 - when KUMB first successfully negotiated access to press conferences - and 2016, I was one of the few privileged independent content providers granted access behind the scenes.

................

So after all those years of having enjoyed a close relationship with the club and having worked in conjunction with them on numerous projects, the door had been firmly slammed shut in my face. Simply because the Board were unhappy with the nature of some of the content published on our website.

I never listen to it anyway (apart from the 10 minutes a couple of hours ago), but now I know that c**t has got his grubby fingers in it; no thanks.

How many support West Ham and listen to TalkSport? How many use Ladbrokes or Paddy Power or Selco? How many already aren't using any of these goods and services? Just boycott the station. It is tabloid radio.
