I’d say it more a case of not having enough good players.

Our first XI if fully fit could give anyone a game, but we haven’t had those players on the pitch together often enough and the gulf to our second string is massive.

You need 18 first team quality players to compete in this league and we probably have 13/14 and a couple of those are sicknotes.

You also need to get your best players on the pitch 80% of the time.

I could have told you that at the start of the season.

That team put out last night was championship quality.
When we get to the championship we'll be lucky to keep half of them due to their wages etc. we're a shadow of the team that left the Boleyn and even that squad was under invested. :thdn:

I think our players are good enough, just haven’t got a manager with a clear game plan or identity to make them play like they did before they joined us. Apart from a couple of positions where we could improve its a squad good enough of finishing in the top half if we had a right person to steer them. We haven’t got that which always results in our fans calling them rubbish despite the fact they are being misused. Haller is the perfect example. Top player and finisher who is a Firmino type of striker. Imagine Firmino if you gave him no wingers to run beyond him. He would look average too. There is a reason Haller was wanted by Bayern. They would know how to use him with Coman, Perisic, Gnabry and Davies all running beyond him, yet we isolate him 20 yards away from anyone.

Far too much asset stripping past couple years

Byram , obiang .. kouate would all walk into this team and add some much needed pace

We sold the young ones and kept the old ones!!

Don't get me wrong Haller .. Anderson .. fornels .. all class on their day but you got to give them service

Need someone to play close to Haller to get best of him

Lanzini isn't fit to wear the shirt anymore

He isn't the player he was

Should never have been given a new contract
our misfield ( midfield ) is like trying to run a F1 car with a ford Escort 1.1l engine. we have been an utter joke , with teams running through us at will , last night being the last episode in a series where our RB through no fault of his own is humiliated . i would try and play Diop there just to add some pace , it cant be any worse than whats been going on ?

I agree. some will say diop needs to form a partnership with ogbonna but now is the time for action to get us out this hole

diop along side rice would be perfect until some of the faster players are back

we put all our chips on wilshere being the midfield for us.. he has bearly played (shock)

we need to drop lanzini from a height (he has lost his ability to take someone on) fornels is the future..... put him either just off haller or in with diop and rice with antonio off haller

its no surprise haller started to look semi decent when someone went along side him

I remember some of the excitement at the beginning of the season, that we would be with Leicester and Everton for Europe. Unfortunately we also have injuries to our better players.

So, with the current team, we are too slow, predictable and there is no intelligence to our play. From our 11 last night;

* Randy - back up goalkeeper
*Oggy - good in patches
*Diop - raw but has potential
* Cresswell - below average now, kept passing backwards
* Zab - Should have retired end of last season
*Arthur - cannot work him out, should not be a defender
* Rice - see Diop, feel sorry for him as he was pulled out of position trying to cover an immobile midfield
*Noble - squad player at best now, too slow
*Snodgrass - one of our more consistent performers but should be a squad player
*Lanzini - not the same since his injuries
* Haller - too immobile to play in the current set up

From that in my opinion I would say 3 to 4 players could be considered first team. I know we have the general and Fredericks etc. but again I consider them as squad players.

Then we have Yama, Reid, Wilshire, Antonio, and more recently Fab who are our better players but always injured. I don't think we can consider them to be part of the squad, which leaves us with the team above!

I think we need a winger with pace, a driver from midfield and a forward. I would take the wing backs for now because I honestly think that with a better midfield and a little more pace, that would relieve our defence. At the moment we don't know what to do with the ball so we pass backwards and there is constant pressure.

It doesn´t help to start with 5 defenders and 2 defensive midfielders, where is the creation coming from!?

Sort it out MOYES!

Cresswell below average ?

Did you see that goal saving tacklr last night ?
If VVD had made that tackle Robbie Savage would have come

Cresswells done at this level, he’s just too slow although he still has a decent delivery every now and then. He’s a much of a weakness defensively as Zabaleta

It was a fantastic tackle and stopped a goal in my opinion, I also thought he played really well against Bournemouth but, to me he has glimpses of being a good player again but not consistently enough.

Don't think it is a dire need for replacing however, if we are to progress I think we need an upgrade.

Our biggest problem is centre mid. Should have upgraded on Noble when Dendocker was available. Snodgrass, despite putting in some good effort is not someone we should be relying on to drive the midfield. Criminal underinvestment by the owners
